Just in case anyone was wondering... there's nothing political in my twitter name. I stole it from the loco builder.

My smoke detector battery is dead for the first time in my adult life. I went to change it and turns out it needs a 9v battery. Like…. Okay no wonder the stereotype exists

New Jersey is ready and excited to host eight FIFA World Cup matches this summer – including the World Cup Final. Since I took office, my Administration has been working to prepare for the biggest sporting event our state has ever seen – and today, NJ TRANSIT released their Mobility Plan to move 40,000 fans to and from each match safely and efficiently. In the FIFA World Cup agreement that my Administration inherited, FIFA put zero dollars towards transporting World Cup fans. It also eliminated parking at MetLife Stadium, putting the burden of transporting four times more matchday riders than typical for an event at the stadium on NJ TRANSIT. This agreement will cost NJ TRANSIT at least $48 million, while FIFA is positioned to make $11 billion during the World Cup. As I have said repeatedly, FIFA should cover the cost of transporting its fans. If it won’t, we will not be subsidizing World Cup ticket holders on the backs of New Jerseyans who rely on NJ TRANSIT every day.

@AdamCrafton_ Okay but is $150 per person what it actually costs to run that service? Must be the most expensive per-mile service in the entire world.

On this, no reduced fares for seniors, kids or disabled passengers on either service. The choice is clear: the cost is being transferred to football fans, instead of being taken on by local public services/taxpayer. Highly controversial call which will divide opinion.

BREAKING NJ Transit confirm @TheAthleticFC report of $150 round-trip rail tickets to World Cup at MetLife Stadium. Alternative bus service is $80 (!) per passenger. Locals in area to be asked to work from home if possible to help flow of stations. nytimes.com/athletic/72054…

@Acyn I read an article last week claiming the UK is now MAGA's #1 hate object. That seemed unlikely, but is supported by a lot of the garbage I see floating in the X sewer today. I wonder why, though? MAGA leaders desperate to divert the eyes of their sheeple from the Iran debacle?

@MarieTidball Because all you’ve done is put them into houses, still at the taxpayers’ expense. And frankly I hope every one of those hotels goes out of business.

You won't hear a peep about this from Farage, Tice or Jenrick. Under the Tories, up to 400 hotels were being used to house asylum seekers. With Labour, there are now just 185, with 11 more hotels re-opening to the public, saving the taxpayer £65 million a year.
Alex Norris MP@AlexJJNorris

There were more than 400 asylum hotels under the previous government – that number has been more than halved, with 11 more closing this week. Labour is bringing the asylum system under control.

To Recap: Our Administration inherited an agreement where FIFA contributes $0 toward transportation for the World Cup – while also eliminating parking at MetLife Stadium. Except for premium parking, where FIFA is charging over $200 per spot. As a result, NJ TRANSIT must carry four times the usual ridership for events at the venue, at a cost of $48 million. New Jerseyans shouldn’t be stuck with that bill while FIFA makes $11 billion in profits.

@david_hollas The burning question (sorry couldn’t resist it) is when will we see a substantial reduction in our bills if wind and solar are the future. Also why has Miliband signed deals for SMRs as these seem against his net zero agenda!

Oxford University has done the maths on "drill baby drill" vs a fully renewable UK. Maximum North Sea extraction: saves households £16–£82/year. But ONLY if the government takes every penny of tax revenue and hands it back to households. If they don't, zero benefit. Full renewables: saves households up to £441/year. Recurring. Every year. Indefinitely. The North Sea runs out around 2040. Renewables don't. The analysis was done using January 2026 prices — before the Iran war sent oil to $116 a barrel. Even with cheap fossil fuels as the baseline, renewables win. This isn't ideology. It's arithmetic. Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford. March 2026.
