@ret_ward @DailyMail I have wondered for years why electric cars were so expensive to buy because they are much simpler to build. Was that on purpose, exclusive, therefore commanding a top price now falling with the flood of Chinese EVs. I’m all for electric but we still have a long way to go.

@paulmasonnews If you believe Starmer didn’t know he still is ultimately responsible for Mandlesons appointment. We all know about Mandlesons past and resignations so those alone were reason enough not to give him the position. ‘Prime’ means ‘first in importance’ so own your mistakes Keir!

What this means in short: Starmer followed due process and had no clue that Mandelson had either failed or faced failure at DV. But the entire system needs an urgent overhaul - it seems set up for the "good chap" theory that should no longer apply. 👇🏽
Alex Wickham@alexwickham

BREAKING: Sources say Olly Robbins felt bound by the rules of the security vetting process NOT to tell the PM, No10 or the foreign secretary about the concerns raised about Mandelson That means it appears No10 WERE in fact unaware he had issues with his vetting And sources say in fact Mandelson DID NOT simply fail his vetting. Instead issues were raised and the FCDO security team and ultimately Robbins had to make a decision on whether to grant him DV clearance. It was their decision and there was no “overturning,” sources say As @SamCoatesSky reports via former security official Ciaran Martin, Robbins was prohibited from sharing information about what happened with anyone outside the FCDO security team Sources say the point of the vetting process is that it is extremely invasive and people who go through it must be confident they can tell the whole truth and not have highly embarrassing information about their personal lives leak or be spread around colleagues That means the circle of people allowed to know about what happens in each vetting case is very small and the information is highly privileged The decision on whether to approve Mandelson’s clearance, according to the vetting rules, is taken by a small team of FCDO security officials and ultimately Robbins, sources say Under no circumstance is Robbins or that team able to share the details of the vetting case with No10 or anyone else, sources say. Robbins felt he could not share it with any minister or private office, sources say It appears the PM and No10 were unaware of how these rules were perceived by Robbins and FCDO, and think he should have told them. Allies of Robbins think it is unfair he was sacked But crucially it appears right now that Robbins did not tell No10 and they were actually in the dark about all this until Tuesday. What an unbelievable mess

@Charl_H79 I don’t believe we have anyone in any political party that would be good on the world stage, we are a joke. We pay millions to MPs who are supposed to be good servants of the people but actually they just look after themselves. There are exceptions but rare.

@HeatherJeeves Heather, point here is not Mandleson but failure of people in power to make the right decisions. All we seem to get is poor judgement, blame someone else and scandal that we know about. The media don’t need to cause chaos, politicians do it themselves. I want better than this!

Majority don’t give a monkeys about the Mandelson story. Just a desperate attempt by our bias media to cause instability and chaos.

Ecotricity did it - after four years of campaigning to reform our energy market by ‘breaking the link’ - our government just announced it will. Our bills will be lower, so will inflation and bank lending rates, our economy bigger and stronger. Windfall profits will also be lower, energy company shares are taking a battering now - on this news.

Took this on my way into work this morning. It’s a clear visual of how much space cars take up vs bikes. 11 people (including me) here using far less space than just three vehicles.

@tom_watson Tom, at best he is guilty of misleading us and parliament. I don’t want politicians who consistently make poor decisions in private and public life and then when called out try to cover up or gaslight us! BTW it is alleged you are just the same, hypocritical to say the least!

@TrisOsborneMP The fiscal policy you are peddling is driving the economy down and was before the Iran conflict. Energy policy is doing the same, shame on you.

@TrisOsborneMP Another celebration 💪Tris that our bills are the highest in the developed world and that businesses are closing and unemployment is going up. Reduce energy costs NOW especially as you are receiving a windfall from fuel duty and VAT! VAT on fuel duty it double Tax, abhorrent!

Energy security 💪 Every kWh generated by renewables is less use of oil / gas that means we can conserve use during a time of oil / gas instability.
National Energy System Operator@neso_energy

On Wednesday #wind generated 52.5% of GB electricity, more than gas 15.5%, nuclear 15.1%, biomass 6.7%, imports 5.2%, solar 5.0%, *excl. non-renewable distributed generation

@BotFinderUK @loppylugs73 Frank, you are completely wrong. The top 10% of highest earners this country pay 60% of total tax revenue. I guess you’re not one of them because you would know. The more you tax people the less tax revenue you collect. Stop attacking the ones that really contribute.

Caroline Lucas is right. North Sea output has collapsed, investment is falling off a cliff and new fields would take years to come online. Renewables already generate over half our electricity—and do it faster, cheaper, and without wrecking the climate.🌍

Solar panels being installed in the car park of our local hospital. Fantastic! This isn’t ‘woke’. It’s a cheap, reliable source of energy - and is *part* of ensuring British energy security.

@AlexJJNorris How do you sleep at night? Stop blaming what the previous administration and own your responsibility to serve the people of this country truthfully. You haven’t stopped the boats and you now have lawyers who are coaching asylum seekers how to abuse the system. Utter joke!

There were more than 400 asylum hotels under the previous government – that number has been more than halved, with 11 more closing this week. Labour is bringing the asylum system under control.

@jorgeacf This may come as a surprise, but the Netherlands has the internet and supermarkets; businesses also pay rent and business rates; and lots of people walk and cycle with their shopping.

If you’re wondering why your local high street is dying, have you considered the possibility that car dominance, poor public transport links, a lack of cycle lanes, and the absence of high quality street cleaning and green infrastructure are amongst the chief reasons?

@jonburkeUK No you are wrong again, it’s high business rates, cost of employment, expensive energy and cheap online retailers who don’t pay the relevant taxes.

@Heidi_Labour You have been in power for nearly 2years and it seems you are only acting now because something happened to you as a result. You could use the windfall fuel duty and VAT to fix all the roads, just saying!

Shelling out at the garage to repair pothole damage is no joke - I should know. That's why we're investing record funding to fix Britain's roads, and introducing tough new standards to make sure road users see the difference. thesun.co.uk/motors/3883046…

@LizWebsterSBF You can blame Brexit for everything that’s gone wrong but Miliband couldn’t have done his deals with China or Starmers deals with India if we were still locked in could we? Any deals with USA are off the table because of Starmer!

A country that can’t manufacture, has sold off its utilities, and depends on imports for essentials is bankrupt and exposed. Brexit squandered sovereignty. It stripped away shared resilience with the EU and since then we’ve weakened farming, fishing and industry at home. autocar.co.uk/opinion/busine…
