GUNPOINT DEMOCRACY IN KERALAM, COURTESY BJP-RUN ECI The Congress party expresses its gravest concern and strongest condemnation regarding the shocking events at the Baselius College and MD Seminary School strong rooms. What we witnessed was not just a security lapse; it was a blatant attempt to subvert established electoral protocols under the guise of "central authority." The directive from Central Observer Ranjan Kumar Sinha to seal the strong room keys right next to the locks is nothing short of monumental stupidity. The entire foundation of strong room security rests on the rule that keys must be held separately by the Returning Officer and the Assistant Returning Officer. This ensures that no single individual can gain access. By ordering the keys to be left with the locks, the Observer effectively neutralized the security of the EVMs. Even more alarming was the shameful behavior of the CISF personnel, who went so far as to point their guns at local officials who were simply trying to carry out their duties. Since when do we use the military to bully civil servants into violating election laws? We must give full credit to District Collector Chetan Kumar Meena, who stood his ground with remarkable courage. Despite the high-pressure environment and the literal brandishing of weapons by security forces, he refused to be intimidated. He insisted on following the rules to the letter, eventually forcing the Observer to back down and restoring the proper, secure sealing procedures. However, this incident leaves us with a chilling question: Would collectors in other states show the same spine?The Observer claimed this "key-with-lock" system is practiced in Bengal and Assam. If that is true, it suggests a massive, systemic compromise of EVM integrity in those states. If other collectors are being bullied at gunpoint into accepting these "bizarre" procedures, the credibility of the entire national election is at stake. The Election Commission must explain why there is no uniform, sensible procedure being followed across the country. We demand an immediate investigation into the Observer’s conduct and a guarantee that such "gunpoint democracy" will never be repeated. Our votes are sacred. We will not let them be compromised by incompetence or intimidation!
