At #HRC60, Germany condemns reprisals in the strongest terms. They undermine Human Rights & the UN system, which cannot function without civil society participation. We express utmost concern about the many individual cases documented in the report of the Secretary-General.

Civil society continues to face threats and restrictions for cooperating with the @UN: women, human rights defenders, peace builders, youth, Indigenous Peoples, and LGBTIQ+ community representatives are among those targeted for standing up for their rights. This afternoon, the @UN_HRC discussed the report of #UNSG @antonioguterres on #reprisals against persons & groups engaging with the 🇺🇳 🇩🇰 expressed concern about reprisals against #HRDs & once again called for the release of Mr Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja without further delay.

Persistent intimidation and reprisals are silencing those who engage with the @UN, said Ilze Brands Kehris of @UNHumanRights. Speaking to the Human Rights Council, she urged States to guarantee safe cooperation. #HRC60
