@runthinkwrite How, exactly, do parkrun enforce such a policy?

(TW: optimism incoming.) Here's what I think will happen: 1) The IOC policy has been the outcome of many years of furious argument, but it's done. There won't be any scandals at #LA28, there won't be any big court cases, there won't be many ripples. A little space of male entitlement will be closed off. Trans identified men won't compete in the female category. It's over. 2) A change in Parkrun policy will come, in the next year or so, the outcome of many years of furious argument. It will get done. Parkrun will change the description of its categories on its website, and the trans-identified males will largely stop registering in the female category (or be deregistered, or something). There won't be any scandals, there won't be any big court cases, or many ripples. A little space of male entitlement will be closed off. It will be over. I think this, because there is a *tiny* element of truth in the TRA claim 'it's only a few, it's only sport, what's all the fuss about?' That's a *terrible* claim in many ways. But once women win this, there will be no stomach to re-fight it. There'll be a ratchet. In sport, at least, the win will be comprehensive and permanent. Tell me why I'm wrong.

@alimullaley @Whiterosehip01 You outright deny the existence of the female sex as a discrete category... those beliefs are sexism and misogyny. Women is not a costume men wear. Men are not the default of the human body. Both sexes are equally human.

As a regular female parkrunner, I can categorically state that the vast majority of female parkrunners couldn’t give the proverbial flying f*** about trans women in the female category, because it’s not a race - it’s a social event.

Because, and I've said it already 1) If you're an elite runner you're not using Parkrun as your make or break career defining run. It doesn't qualify you for anything. 2) If you're sub elite as above. 3) If you're running competitively, you're not using park run beyond a friendly tune up 4) It's a fun run 5) It's open to everyone If this was about the UK Champs, or European Champs you'd have my support. But this is about a fun run. Who cares?

Yes, the people who call themselves 'trans' exist and they deserve exactly the same rights as everyone else, which, fortunately, they already have in the UK. It would rightly be considered discrimination if a person was refused employment, housing or the vote because they identified as trans. 'Trans women are women' is a thought-terminating cliché. Men are not women. That doesn't mean they're not allowed to present themselves however they like, call themselves whatever they like and believe whatever they like about themselves. It means they haven't changed sex. If we replace the objective, observable characteristic of sex with the unfalsifiable concept of gender identify, women and girls lose, among other things, their right to fair and safe sport and women-only spaces, including changing rooms, prison cells and rape crisis services. Women and girls are provably more vulnerable to forms of abuse including sexual assault, harassment and voyeurism in mixed-sex spaces. There is no evidence that trans-identified men don't have exactly the same rates of criminal offending as all other men. Trans people exist. I have no desire for them not to exist; indeed, I wish them safety, happiness and health. However, 'existence' does not, and should not, mean the violation of other people's right to privacy, dignity and freedom of speech, or the reconfiguration of society to indulge a fallacy.
