In hindsight, knowing what happened behind the scenes, Nintendo were better off just letting Bandai Namco finish production and have Retro Studios work on a fifth game from the ground up.

Metroid Prime 4 has still not appeared in any of Nintendo's financial sales reports. Sadly that means it did not reach over 1 million units sold on Switch or 1 million units sold on Switch 2 in the past fiscal year.

@Banebro22 @Genki_JPN Those numbers are outdated (in 2024 were just 49 millions of PSN users on PS4) and now are far less (no more first party games). Anyway, why those people should buy a PS5 with GTA VI at launch if they aren't interested in upgrading (or they can't)? GTA V is much better on PS5.

@Olpus @Genki_JPN There are still something like 50-60 million active PS4 consoles online right now. A good portion are playing GTA5 online. Those people will buy a PS5 to play GTA6. There's a bunch of kids coming of age every year whose parents will buy them a PS5 around the holidays and GTA6

Nintendo is giving people time to save up or make decision or buy a Switch 2 now before $50 increase worldwide in Sep 1.
PS and Xbox however has been doing just a week noticed. Even though didn't really matter for Xbox since Xbox hardware sales are so low but impulse buy for PS5.

Nintendo should sell a Dockless Switch 2 with no Dock No HDMI Cable. For those that don’t play their Switch 2 docked and sell it for $399 to reduce unnecessary costs. I’m one of those that only plays docked once in a blue moon. 90% of my gaming is handheld only.

Pricing for Switch 2 will be increasing globally. In Japan, it begins later this month with a 10,000 yen increase. For us in the United States, the price begins September 1st, with a $50 USD increase in price.
NSO prices are also increasing for the second time ever, but only in Japan and South Korea. Last time it was parts of South America and Central America.
This is rather unfortunate, but for many not all too surprising. As for why September 1st instead of this month? My guess would be they assume they have enough stock already here, to last until then.
The economics consoles exists in right now are extremely unfavorable.

This is to me, an extremely asinine take. In two fiscal years they project to sell 36m+ consoles (5m ahead of Switch, launch aligned) and he thinks they should pivot back to switch 1? Make it make sense.

@MugenLord Star Fox Assault had a good multiplayer mode and in fact its development started as a multiplayer game. But people wanted a single player game on par with Star Fox 64. I hope that the new Star Fox of this year will relaunch the series.

Despite the cool ideas, the game did not perform well, and no one came out to support it. This is why Star Fox had been shelved so many times. So, here is another chance with this remake to put the series back on the map again. Sure, you don't have to like the design, but this definitely won't be a permanent look, since Star Fox's design changes with almost every entry.
Everyone is so mad right now, but no one showed up for most of these Star Fox games compared to Star Fox 64. This is why we are in the predicament we are in right now.

To this day, I still think that Star Fox Assault had the best concept for a Star Fox game Fox is always talking about his blaster, and yet, this is the ONLY Star Fox game where he can actually use it I have spent years praying for Nintendo to expand on the concept of a Star Fox game, where you have on-foot action + aerial combat But nope, after years of nothing, all we can get is the same Star Fox game over again but with "realistic visuals"

I was of the opinion last year that Nintendo would weather the tariffs in 2025, and then raise prices for the Switch 2 in 2026. With the memory price surge (and whatever trump is doing with tariffs today), I’m fairly convinced we’ll see a Switch 2 price hike this year.
