This is a false dilemma, rooted in a fundamental misunderstanding of nationhood, particularly for a people like Israel. For the Jewish people, race and religion are not separable categories; they are inextricably intertwined. To be a Jew is to be part of a nation, a family, and a covenant. Our lineage and our faith are two sides of the same coin, defining who we are and our purpose in the world. To choose one over the other would be to choose the dissolution of identity itself. The preservation of the Jewish nation inherently means the preservation of the Jewish people and the covenant that defines them. There is no such thing as a Jewish "race" divorced from its spiritual heritage, nor a Jewish "religion" that exists independent of the people it was given to.
