Video review on a shot from Fonseca. I think Alcaraz thought he "hit it" twice, as opposed to not getting it "up". Lahyani explained to him you actually are allowed to hit it twice if it's one continuous motion. Alcaraz said he didn't know that rule (Tennis players often don't).

(That's not a knock on anyone. Gauff earns that fear factor by virtue of her ranking and being a Slam champ).

Cocciaretto should be running away, but for Gauff's fighting qualities. The Italian's problem at the moment is she's trying TOO hard to find Gauff's forehand, and missing wide. Which means the confidence isn't there. Still on serve in the 3rd though.

(It'd be great if Gauff's people were noisier and more encouraging ALL THE TIME, esp. when she's behind, rather than just waking up when she's catches up. But hey, maybe that's what she wants. 🤷‍♀️) You also never hear any coaching advice beyond "FIGHT!", or whatever.

Wow! I think it’s a really big flex to be practice with Serena williams 3x per week. You can see the improvement in Alycia’s game this season so far too! Says a lot about Parks that Serena would even invest the time! 🙌🏾

(PS - how great is Schiavone looking. Seriously).

They've moved the Sabalenka match (due after Gauff) over to Butch Buchholz so that the night session isn't further delayed (which kicks off with the highly anticipated Alcaraz v Fonseca match).

A number of later matches cancelled, of course, including Keys, Osaka and Fernandez.

Rain, and some serious marathons, aree making progress on the big Miami Open Friday schedule ... slow as of 5:30 p.m. WTA: 8-of-26 matches done. ATP: 5-of-23 done.

@ThirstForTT She’s a really nice person too. I worked with her a few years ago at Roland Garros when they did the Tennis Channel commentaries on site rather than from a studio a million miles away in LA.

It doesn't happen nearly often enough but the TC broadcast team for Fonseca-Maroszan is .... Chanda Rubin and Martina. Rubin's evolution into a quality PXP commentator rather than just a former player yapping has been impressive to watch. She's solid. Pleasant voice too.

@OpenCourt Chanda Rubin is more than solid. In my view she is one of the smartest and most insightful commentators on air right now, I love listening to her. She has a great TV voice too.
