People love to undermine the work ZASM did in fighting US sanctions through various means and the courts. But I challenge anyone to show me any Africa or non-Africa who took the US President and government to court anywhere in the world, to stop them from invading, sanctioning or persecuting a civilians. Then they successfully forced the US to respond to the court (particularly in Africa) and then forced them to stop the action for which they were taken to court —in this case sanctions and persecutions of civilians— four days after challenging Biden’s application for immunity?

My organization launched a court case against US President and South African banks in February 2022 on behest of the Zimbabwean President. We launched the case, the lawyers did the work and money was owed to them. Four months after this discussion of payment with our lawyers—two years after launching the case— sanctions were removed by the Americans. But even though they delivered till today they have not been paid in full alongside those who did the other 90% of work that removed the sanctions.

In 2019, Chidawa and three other CID officers were arrested for allegedly stealing money and accepting bribes during a raid on Neville Mutsvangwa's offices. The officers were accused of under-declaring the amount of cash they had seized.

In September 2023, police issued an alert for Chidawa's arrest after he allegedly stole a vehicle from a ZIMRA car yard at the Chirundu border post.
In January 2024, Chidawa was arrested and charged with stealing a Toyota Hilux double cab.

In June 2025, Harare magistrate Tapiwa Banda found Chidawa guilty of kidnapping Shallom Gandiya, a director at Jaimy Technologies. The court heard that on 5 March 2024, Chidawa and accomplices had forcibly taken Gandiya and held her.
