Miami Beach approved fully pedestrianizing Ocean Drive north of 5th St. This would create 20 ft wide sidewalks and expansive seating areas. Side streets would have cul-de-sacs for passenger vehicles to easily turn around. Trucks would use the alleys on Ocean Court. Collapsible bollards would be in place to allow emergency vehicles through. The county has to sign off on the design before it can move forward. If it gets the green light, it’ll take around 8 months before any construction documents are ready

@l4v3x2064 @Antonio12I Well, Maroni was pre-Salvini Lega and he led Lombardia from 2013. Probably Lega would have taken that role earlier if Formigoni hadn’t been ensconced there for two decades. Also there was the Lega mayor in Milan in the 90s plus its significant/decisive role in national coalitions

@Antonio12I Northern League before Salvini (who gave up Padanian separatism) it literally never was the first party in no Northern Italy region. Excluding isolated cases (1993 regional elections in Friuli and 2010 ones in Veneto) they were always behind FI/PDL of Berlusconi.

For today’s map (courtesy of @KalistatData): the fertility rate of Italians (Italians only, excluding foreigners) by province in 2002 and 2024. There’s a clear decline, concentrated especially in the South. The provincial average was 1.16 in 2002; in 2024 it’s 1.10.

Back when this country was building metro lines it would have made a great amount of sense to run a line from Little Havana to the Miami Beach Convention Center via downtown, the cruise terminal here, and South Beach. But instead we have this.

@IRideMDT Why don’t you at least operate the service to Vizcaya and use the pocket track there. That has no operational impact on work at Dadeland and maintains the one-seat ride and higher frequencies between downtown, Brickell, and the airport.

Reminder: Temporary single-track service remains at Dadeland South Intermodal Station during platform improvements. Work will last about six weeks, with one side closed at a time. All service at Dadeland South is operating as Green Line; Orange Line will operate only between Earlington Heights and Miami International Airport.
