The government has already put huge pressure on the BBC’s finances. The cuts are becoming painful. So, if this story is true, it would be shortsighted and destructive to break the promise of an inflation-based increase in funding.

We are calling for a new, independent process for appointing the Chair of the BBC (and other similar roles, such as the chair of Ofcom, C4 board members) to ensure our vital public institutions/broadcasters get the leadership and governance they deserve

Sharp's appointment process was clearly flawed . However good he might have been as Chair, his credibility is undermined by the chummyness of his appointment over other qualified candidates. This hurts the BBC's credibility at home & around the world bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-6…
