@davepl1968 How weird, I was home sick from school watching Price is Right when the Challenger blew up so I remember correctly that I didn't see it live, only after they changed to the news.

I was home sick from school the day Reagan was shot, watching TV. Of course, all the networks immediately switched to covering and replaying it. I feel like I was watching it live, but what are the odds I was watching him walk out of some conference center after some random speech? Pretty unlikely. It's kinda like that, because by then, shuttle launches were routine and no one watched them. It wasn't even on the networks. Now, if your school was specifically following the adventures of Chris McAuliffe, then you might have been watching. To any individual, I am in no position to doubt your memory, so if you remember it live, that's great. My point is that a whole lot of OTHER people think they watched it live too, but didn't. So I believe each one of you, but not all of you at once :-)

99.9% of people who "experienced" the Challenger disaster saw it on replay and now remember it as live. Almost NO ONE was watching. Everyone thinks they were. It's a fascinating collective false memory.
