
The U.S. Air Force Academy broke ground yesterday on a memorial to the Tuskegee Airmen with a replica of the P-51 Mustang they flew in 15,000 sorties and earned 850 medals. Lt. Col. James Harvey, a 100-year-old Tuskegee pilot won the inaugural Top Gun fighter pilot competition in 1949. He went on to fly with distinction in combat in Korea.
