Been seeing a lot of posts circulating so I'll take this opportunity to advertise myself. Every photographer has their own style so you as the consumer decide what you want based on your own budget. This is the quality of photos you get from me for ~$200/hr.

@Bluehasia I’ve always admired your photography. Bummer to hear you’ve been undervalued by enough people that it got to you down, but I definitely can relate to the experience. It’s tough to hustle photos in this fandom.

The backlash Dire Walf is getting is one of the reasons I closed my commissions. I received a lot of pushback for charging $60 per photo for work like this. I travel to conventions with sometimes upwards of $15,000 in camera gear and another $3,000 in lighting and accessories. For some clients, I spend up to three hours during the convention on a shoot, plus around ten hours afterward on post-editing. Over time, it became discouraging. I felt my work was worth more, yet even at $60 per photo, people said I was overcharging for “just a photo.” That left me feeling devalued, like my work wasn’t appreciated. That’s a big reason I closed commissions. I needed a break. At this point, I’m not even sure I’ll reopen, because fursuit photography can sometimes feel like a thankless artistic path in the fandom.

I've always thought my photoshoots were too expensive. Imposter syndrome being the reason I'm hesitant usually to increase my prices. Also the fact that increasing in general would drive away customers. But it is what it is 🤷‍♂️

I make a living with my camera, just not in the fandom. I'm not going to wade into the debate on what portrait sessions should cost but I will say this- Photography isn't free unless it's a gift. If you're the recipient of that gift, try to appreciate what the gesture is worth.

Professional photography isn't cheap, but choosing not to be a dick in the comments is free.
