This is wild. 143 million people thought they were catching Pokémon. They were actually building one of the largest real-world visual datasets in AI history. Niantic just disclosed that photos and AR scans collected through Pokémon Go have produced a dataset of over 30 billion real-world images. The company is now using that data to power visual navigation AI for delivery robots. Players didn't just walk around with their phones. They scanned landmarks, storefronts, parks, and sidewalks from every angle, at every time of day, in lighting and weather conditions that staged photography would never capture. They documented the physical world at a scale no mapping company with a fleet of vehicles could have replicated on the same timeline or budget. Niantic collected this systematically, data point by data point, across eight years, while users thought the only thing at stake was catching a rare Charizard. The most valuable AI training datasets in the world aren't being assembled in data centers. They're being built by people who have no idea they're building them.

I hate going through my old creator lists for launches to build new outreach lists, only to see that the majority of folks have moved on from content creation. So many old memories coming back just by seeing usernames.

@PodsofWar The toxic males are going to love it way more than you will. How many ways are you going to see women told to get back in the kitchen? You’ll need to take your shoes off to count this one

Hey guys, the folks at the American Heart Association are hosting a Steam sale! All games participating are donating a percentage of their sales, so if you’re looking for a new game, this is a great way to support the cause! Sale ends February 17: store.steampowered.com/curator/459018…

@PodsofWar This. Last year, I had 2 occasions where I got raided and a new viewer postively commented about me having closed captions. I mainly use it for some instream effects, but it makes your stream more accessible by having it in there

This is my yearly reminder for you to take 5 minutes to install closed captions on your OBS. Download, extract, drag file to OBS plugins folder. Done. obsproject.com/forum/resource…

@EdgarXedging Right? It's a little hard to find the best one. I've tested a couple but really like how this one uses the closed caption functionality of the player.

@PodsofWar I'm pretty sure it was the Google plugin yeah. I think I would mute/unmute from my El Gato Stream Deck, but it's been a while, maybe they patched it, or user error on my part ❤️

@zachbussey In still wondering who gets the revenue from ads in VODs, as well as when twitch is counting half my viewers ornless and everyone is seeing ads who gets the leftover money? Because I only get paid for what twitch decides to count.

I've been thinking more about this... and maybe Twitch doesn't actually pay Turbo for ads (not) seen? Instead, is it possible they're just paying out like a creator fund? An example of what I'm thinking... let's say every Turbo subscriber has $6 that pays out to creators (Twitch maybe takes the other $6). That $6 is split over 30 days (20 cents per day), and creators earn that 20 cents based on the total amount of daily content AND the ad density of that Turbo subscribers' viewing time. So, if they watch three channels for 1 hour each, channel A runs 7 minutes of ads, channel B runs 2 minutes of ads, and channel C runs 1 minute of ads... the 20 cents would be distributed as 14 cents to Channel A, 4 cents to Channel B, and 2 cents to Channel C. But what happens if all those channels increase their ad density? What happens if the person doesn't watch for 28 days? And why have they ALWAYS marketed this as "creators get the same rate as if the viewer saw the ads," when clearly they don't, if it's a known prorated amount? I've never been more confused about Twitch Turbo than I am right now... what am I missing? Does anyone else have other theories to explain how they know a prorated daily amount based on 30 days of Turbo viewing?
Zach Bussey 🇨🇦@zachbussey

I'm confused. I thought Turbo paid creators for every ad the user didn't see on their stream, at the same rate as if they had seen the ad. But the way this reads suggests a flat rate payout per day they watch? Also, if it paid out 'the full amount upfront', what was that amount? There are so many more questions I have... but this is standard for Twitch's monetization team: everything is hidden inside a black box they don't open to creators...

@AokiralVT I mean I do that w/ the goxlr broadcast stream mix, I don't really mind that the game is also captioned. These are closed captions so the user has the option to turn them on or off.

@zzzandtea It's only the spoken language, but I believe that's a limitation on the Twitch side. I don't see an option on their player to change languages.
