The children continue to be busy little gardeners in our allotment, and this weeks excitement has been spotting the ripe raspberries! We watered all our squash plants, Trombonchino, tomatoes, peas, cucumber and rainbow carrots! @NewForestSussed #EYFS #EarlyYearsgardening

Up at Forest School today, the children discovered a huge great diving beetle in the pond. We definitely have not identified one of those before! We also spotted a Comma butterfly sunning her wings. Both identified using ID sheets with images. @BBCSpringwatch @NewForestSussed

Today we celebrated #ButterlyAwarenessandEducationDay that is celebrated on Saturday. The children love to use the ID sheet to spot The Orange Tip, Peacock and Painted Lady. We know about their habitats and the importance of wild flowers. @savebutterflies @NewForestSussed

We have been closely watching our strawberry patch during our daily visits, they were thrilled to see that we have lots of strawberries, ripe for picking this week! We prepared them and baked scones for our own afternoon tea! From home grown to home made! @NewForestSussed #EYFS

We are celebrating the life of our beautiful Bees this week with #WorldBeeDay sharing some honey, creating Bees from playdoh and paper and of course sowing more wild flower seeds @NewForestSussed

We were super excited to spot the tops of our radishes peeking through the soil this week! Lots of the children tried them and said they were crunchy and spicy! Lots more to come too as well as our salad leaves @NewForestSussed #childrensgardening #EYFS

The children were so excited to find that our rescued tadpoles had changed into tiny froglets! We carefully transported them to the Forest School pond so they can enjoy their new home 🐸😍 @NewForestSussed @Muddyfaces @NurseryWorld #EYFS

@Lussas Move over you peas for the mighty tromboncino 🤣

May its fruits be abundant, large and trombone-shaped! We planted out ours on #Penningtonallotment yesterday! And we had to move the sturdy pea frame over to the tromboncinos. Peas weren’t too pleased!

When a simple fly is as important as any insect or animal to young children! I was summoned to rescue one drowning in the FS pond and the children watched over it until it flew away! Such care and concern is wonderful to see @NewForestSussed @Natures_Voice

Nettles at #ForestSchool are kept as part of an important eco system, as the children learn how the butterflies lay their eggs under the leaves. We tap in a hazed flag to ensure everyone stays clear @Muddyfaces @NewForestSussed @savebutterflies

The children have carried on their interest in insect ID and this has been extended to the life that lives in the wildlife pond This provides further opportunities to learn about life cycles, insects names, using ID sheets, water safety and caring for them. @NewForestSussed

We have noticed the influx of insects and are keen to investigate under wood and leaf litter to discover them. We use ID sheets to name and are always respectful when moving a habitat or handling, teaching the children to care about their environment @NewForestSussed @Muddyfaces

We spent a beautiful sunny morning at #ForestSchool today. The children have enjoyed spotting the gorgeous Bluebells growing throughout the wood, so we provided paints and paper to encourage some observational art, looking at pretty little bells @Muddyfaces @NewForestSussed

We are excited to watch our nest boxes being inhabited once again by our group of house sparrows! The children love to watch them and we are hoping for more baby birds being born very soon! @Natures_Voice @NewForestSussed

We have been busy at #ForestSchool this week using real tools from @Muddyfaces such as hammers and palm drills to create some amazing chicks and bunnies! Toasting our hot cross buns over the fire with toasting forks has also been fun! 🤩

We have began planting our seed potatoes into our own allotment. We dug our trench and talked about how the shoot needs to look for the sky so we plant them shoots upwards. We are hoping for a good harvest! @NewForestSussed #allotment #gardeningforchildren
