@paintoolkit2 Such an interesting point Pete. I think the profession is confused too!😢 Im happy to say I am in the “both hand on and hands off therapy” dept

Can I ask a question, as I’m getting confused 😵‍💫 Do Physiotherapists provide: - Hands on therapy? - Hands off therapy - Both hand on and off therapy?

@Retlouping @coasthealthhub @marklaslett_NZ This “kind, woman of a certain age” has simply had enough of being politely ‘put in her place’ by a parade of self-important men who flash their published papers like academic 🦚 peacocks. This discussion is way too nuanced for twitter, I’m going back in hiding!

It is possible. I am in the final stages of completing my book "The science and art of musculoskeletal diagnosis". It will be available by August probably from Amazon

@JArcher100 @marklaslett_NZ How do you “sort out” the identified structure?

@PrestonsHealth @marklaslett_NZ We agree that pain is multifactorial, no doubt, and the pain may or may not relate to the identified structure. But if it is a causative factor of consequence, it will need sorted out. After which, there may be a more tolerable level of established pain to reduce, maybe not.

True. Not just mine tho'. There's oodles of published reports of studies showing that 40% of CLBP is discogenic, 15% facetogenic, & at least 7% SIJ. Those alone are 60% and simply inconsistent with the claim that 95% don't have a structural cause.
Helen Preston@PrestonsHealth

@marklaslett_NZ In your opinion Mark.

According to this, 95% of people presenting with pain don’t have a structural cause. Not true. Mentions only cancer, fracture, nerve or cord compression as relevant findings on MRI. Not true. Imaging findings in asymptomatics doesn't destroy validity. Ignorance is not bliss

What you see: Friend who is fit, healthy and energetic in middle age. What you SHOULD see: Friend who consistently eats healthy, makes time to exercise, and gets to bed at a reasonable hour. Stop looking at the outcomes. Start looking at the habits that lead to the outcomes.

There is no "minimum" amount of physical activity that someone should do. Facilitate & encourage people to do a little bit more. The evidence is clear. It is hugely beneficial. #google_vignette" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">academic.oup.com/eurjpc/article…
