While most of us escape the heat indoors, delivery partners continue riding through scorching streets to keep our daily lives running. Last year, Chennai introduced a thoughtful solution. The Greater Chennai Corporation set up an air conditioned rest lounge for gig workers, giving delivery riders a safe place to pause during long shifts. The space can accommodate around 25 people and offers comfortable seating, drinking water, toilets, mobile charging points, and security. For workers who spend 10 to 12 hours outdoors, these small comforts can make a big difference. A short break in a cool space helps them recharge before getting back on the road. As India prepares for another intense summer, this initiative shows how cities can start thinking about the people who keep urban life running.
