📍Danica and I attended the Belgrade premiere of the international film “Harvest”.
This American-Serbian co-production tells a powerful and difficult story inspired by real events involving Serbian civilians in Kosovo and Metohija after the 1999 war and the illegal trafficking of their organs, documented in international reports. For many Serbian families, these events remain one of the most painful and unresolved chapters of our recent history.
At the centre of the story is a striking metaphor. A wealthy German baron unwillingly receives a heart transplant, only to begin experiencing memories of Kosovo, of a Serbian family, their land, and their churches. Through this story the film reminds us of a deeper truth. Kosovo and Metohija is the heart of Serbia, and no force can erase the spiritual, historical, cultural and everlasting bond our people have with that land.
Cinema has a unique ability to reach hearts and minds across borders. Projects like “Harvest” help bring attention to true stories that for too long have been ignored, while honouring the victims and preserving the memory of what happened.
I congratulate the filmmakers, cast, and everyone involved in bringing this important story to the screen. The film will be shown in cinemas across Serbia, and I hope it reaches audiences around the world.
