Happy Birthday to my friend Jared James Nichols!
I’ve had the pleasure of writing and recording with Jared over the years, and watching him grow into one of the most exciting blues-rock guitarists out there has been incredible.
In this video we talk guitars, technique, and some great stories from the early days.

Master bus glue, punchy drums, stacked country acoustics, subtle kick/bass sidechaining and a bright, upfront vocal chain.
Plus… what he’d do differently today.

My wife Kasia bought me tickets to Sunny Afternoon as a birthday gift. We flew from LA on my birthday just to see it, and it turned out to be one of the most moving nights I’ve had in a theatre. @TheKinks
This console changed how records sound forever.
@Harrison_Audio consoles shaped countless classic albums, and the 32Classic brings that legacy into today’s studios with analogue tone, Dante, and Atmos integration.

Year-end perspective.
7.3B streams. 5.2B views. 22M Shazams. Continued vinyl sales with artists like The Fray, Aerosmith, James Blunt.
Songs like How to Save a Life and You Found Me are still connecting with new listeners.
Top 1% producer, and surprisingly also engineer, songwriter, guitarist. What that really means is steady output and a lifetime of making records.
Many independent artists are doing well. Real careers are still being built through music made, released, and lived with.
Grateful.
Robert Johnson recorded only 29 songs, yet changed the course of modern music.
Clapton, Dylan, Zeppelin, The Stones… they all started with him.
His story is part mystery, part folklore & part pure genius & more than 80 years later we are still chasing the sound he created with a single guitar.
If you want to know why he is truly the father of rock & roll
If you would like to see a brilliant mixer work entirely in the box, watch @KenSluiter take on City Lights in the full YouTube course. See how much energy and punch he gets using nothing but plugins and DAW workflow. youtube.com/watch?v=5lnoYy…
Hear how the same song sounds when mixed through an SSL & outboard, watch my Hybrid Mixversion of City Lights on YouTube with the same multitracks Ken used, so you can compare both approaches & hear how differently a hybrid workflow can shape tone & depth youtube.com/watch?v=os9joB…
Alanis Morissette’s vocal on You Oughta Know is one of the great performances of the 90s.
She only needed a handful of takes. She knew exactly what she wanted to say and how to say it.
Perfectly imperfect, emotional, and completely alive.
A reminder that honesty often beats polish.
Steve Cropper has passed away. Growing up in Britain I was a massive soul and R and B fan and Stax Records shaped everything for me. Steve helped write and play on Dock of the Bay, Soul Man, In the Midnight Hour, Knock on Wood, Green Onions and so many others. His guitar parts were always about groove, taste and serving the song.
