How do you actually mix a full album from start to finish? I sat down with David Bennett at Spitfire in London and broke down everything behind his debut album. Vocals, acoustic guitars, cello, drums, low end… all of it. Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=lYtUFc…

Happy Birthday to my friend Jared James Nichols! I’ve had the pleasure of writing and recording with Jared over the years, and watching him grow into one of the most exciting blues-rock guitarists out there has been incredible. In this video we talk guitars, technique, and some great stories from the early days. Watch here: youtube.com/watch?v=oJBjhl…

Happy Birthday to David Gilmour. Like so many musicians of my generation, the music of Pink Floyd touched my life in a profound way and helped shape the way I hear and feel music. Every album felt like an event. From the haunting beauty of The Dark Side of the Moon to the emotional sweep of Wish You Were Here and the sheer ambition of The Wall, these records were more than songs, they were journeys. David’s guitar playing has always been a masterclass in taste and emotion. A single note from him can say more than a hundred from someone else. The tone, the phrasing, the space between the notes, it all serves the music in a way that reminds us what great guitar playing is really about. His solo work has carried that same spirit forward. Albums like On an Island and Rattle That Lock showed that unmistakable sense of atmosphere, melody, and emotional depth that defines his playing. And his latest record, Luck and Strange, feels like a true masterpiece, reflective, beautifully produced, and full of the kind of expressive guitar work that only he can deliver. For many of us growing up, those records were part of the soundtrack of our lives. They inspired us to pick up instruments, experiment in the studio, and chase sounds that move people emotionally. So thank you, David, for the music, the inspiration, and the countless moments where a single guitar note seemed to say exactly what words never could. Happy Birthday, and here’s to many more years of beautiful music.

@Buster_InShorts I hear you! Adding definition to the bass helps A LOT! When it's all only low end we turn it up to be audible but forget we are drowning our mix with too much low end

@ProduceLikeAPro I will always initially mix my bass too loud. It just happens, Warren, no tutorial on earth can fix that. I believe producing songs, not releasing them, revisiting them 1-2 months later, truly helps many songs be better, than they'd get to be otherwise. At least for me.

Herb Trawick changed our industry. Alongside Dave Pensado, he helped pioneer open access to high-level audio education. Before it was normal for top engineers to share their process publicly, Herb helped make it happen. He wasn’t just a manager. He was a strategist, a connector, a believer in people. Not always embraced by his peers, however true pioneers rarely are. He built platforms that shifted culture and gave engineers a voice. As someone who has dedicated much of my life to education, I recognise what that takes. Resilience. Vision. Thick skin. Herb, thank you for helping all of us believe knowledge should be shared. Rest in peace.

Abbey Road was almost called… Everest. Yes, really. My late friend John Kurlander told me how The Beatles nearly flew to the Himalayas for the cover, before someone said, “Let’s just go outside.” A last-minute decision created history. John passed unexpectedly last year and is sorely missed. This is a beautiful story. #thebeatles #abbeyroad #warrenhuart
