There's something to be said of a lost generation or two of youth that simply don't know/care about the league. Plyrs are down-to-Earth & often have incredible backstories, game itself is entertaining & has a rich history...there's just a lot missing in the packaging of it all.

Russia has fewer TV deals, lower sponsorship, a much smaller corporate base, a much weaker currency, and a MUCH lower GDP per capita. The KHL earns less than the NHL primarily for these reasons. Nothing to do with talent.
