@BStulberg I’m 11 yrs off sertraline & still waiting on the sexual, cognitive & emotional dysfunction it caused to subside. It’s ruined my life. I’m sure some people do benefit from them but they are catastrophic to others & you owe it to your patients to fully inform them of these risks.

🚨 EMERGING INVESTIGATION: Finasteride (Propecia) — Depression. Anxiety. Suicidal thoughts. Millions of men are prescribed the hair loss drug every year. Recent research links it to serious psychiatric side effects. The FDA added suicide risk to the label in 2022. Reply with helpful info. We're organizing 👇

I’m looking for stories from people who have been injured by pharmaceuticals to add to a website I put together on pharmaceutical induced injury. Please share. Hopefully this website can help push for much needed change. My story is on there already.

#Nobodytoldme that SSRI’s could strip away everything that made me human. Indefinitely, even after stopping the medication. They have taken away my sexuality and emotions although I’ve been off antidepressants for 2 years now. #PSSD

Great to see “SM training” on the agenda for @rcpsych International Congress. Perhaps their presidential candidate, @ProfRobHoward, might finally learn how to engage with patients raising concerns about harm without the usual dismissal and ridicule. Then again 🤷‍♂️ …

1/ As a patient who values reform in psychiatry while acknowledging its legitimate benefits, I am deeply concerned about @ProfRobHoward’s campaign to become President of the @rcpsych. Leadership at this level must protect patients, not defend institutions at their expense. 🧵

I lost another friend to suicide due to the withdrawal effects of antidepressants. We’d been friends for over 7 years. She recently got worsening destabilization after drinking ONE BEER and then a few months later taking an antibiotic. She left behind 2 children, husband…

The Make America Healthy Again executive order calls for investigations into SSRIs, antipsychotics, and stimulants. It's about those harmed and ignored, not just efficacy. #MentalHealth #BigPharma

1/ @DrSteveStahl & Jeffrey Strawn’s new ‘Deprescriber’s Guide’ is reckless at best. Its taper recommendations ignore basic pharmacology, normalise rapid tapering and push patients toward unnecessary poly pharmacy. 🧵

Caution: This book may put patients at risk. The newly released Stahl’s Deprescribers Guide by Dr. Jeffrey R. Strawn and Dr. Stephen M. Stahl is already a best-seller. 1/7

Lost in the controversy over whether keto diets “cure” mental illness is this: psychiatric medications don’t cure mental illness either. Missing from the warnings about keto being “dangerous” or “hard to maintain” is that psychiatric meds pose significant risks, and the side effects can be unbearable.

The desperation to deny harm from SSRIs by @itsemileeharper is really quite staggering. It is what you expect from someone with a vested interest in making money out of pharma products.
Sam Hall@samhall404

@itsemileeharper You’re conflating lack of large RCTs with lack of evidence. PSSD is described in peer reviewed case series, cohort data, systematic reviews and has been acknowledged by some regulators. Again, displaying your profound ignorance on the subject.

Psychiatric meds can, in rare cases, cause frightening side effects like dark, taboo thoughts. One man, on Paxil, experienced psychosis and tragically killed his son, driven by drug-induced delusions. The prosecution agreed it was drug-induced. #MentalHealth #SSRIs

There are doctors still prescribing SSRIs today without warning patients about on drug side effects, never mind the ones that can persist after stopping the drug (PSSD). The level of ignorance among these drugs still in 2026 is mind blowing. I do not fault the doctors for this. I fault the system, and the people at the top running the show. But if you are going to prescribe drugs, you need to know the safety information. You are putting people’s lives in danger and at risk prescribing these drugs.

I am so over people saying this is rare. Harm from psychotropic drugs - whether this be withdrawal from them, or adverse reactions - is not rare. It is vastly underreported. Half of the people have no idea what is happening to them, thus, do not report it.

@PatMcGorry @markhoro Many of us have suffered severe & permanent harm from these drugs that has lasted decades. Many have died as a result of that harm. We were never warned about it & patient safety info still doesn’t cover it. In what world are you the one providing balance?

@markhoro Just hoping for balance Mark. No question harmful effects has been underrecognised so well done on that score. However I remember before the SSRIs and SGAs. The newer drugs are much safer and better tolerated. They are overused but mainly in primary care.

Other thing striking here is that Pat's eruption was in response to me being sympathetic to doctors who are prone to mis-diagnosing withdrawal due to a lack of awareness, calling for - horror! - more education about withdrawal to prevent mis-diagnosis. Clearly too radical!
Patrick McGorry@PatMcGorry

Imagine if cancer specialists campaigned like this to focus exclusively on the very real adverse effects of chemotherapy. The latter are real but those treatments on balance are beneficial in terms of risk/benefit. Appealing for balance. Otherwise public confidence is undermined
