Congressional House Republicans voted today to cut our local budget by over $1 billion – money that is locally generated, not federal dollars that will not lead to any savings. This will have a devastating impact on our city — police, fire and EMS, teachers, and other essential government services.
Our police department is down 700 officers. If the Continuing Resolution in its current version passes in the Senate, our law enforcement will be even more strained by a major reduction in personnel, putting the safety of all District residents and visitors at risk. This move would take us backwards and is dangerous.
The CR now heads to the Senate, and we are urging all U.S. Senators to include the language that was already included in the prior two CRs, authorizing the District to spend its locally generated revenue at FY25 levels.
