This world doesn’t need more war. It needs more compassion, more truth, more love. No flag is worth more than a life.

🌏 New research in #Nature reveals how the globally unprecedented 2019–2020 Australian megafires impacted plant and animal species. Led by Deakin University and supported by Western Sydney University researchers, the study involved 100+ scientists who brought together data on 1,300+ animal and plant species - the world’s largest dataset of biodiversity responses after a single fire season. Co-author Associate Professor Rachael Nolan, Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment and Director, NSW Bushfire and Natural Hazards Research Centre, highlighted that the study found populations of some species declined, while other species became more common after the fire. “Species responses to fire depend on the fire regime, that is, how frequent, severe or widespread a fire is. Some species are more resilient than others. This research shows that the severe drought in the lead up to the Black Summer fires, also shaped species responses.” Read the paper: tinyurl.com/2p9uyjsn

What a wonderful start to the main program of the Wildland Fire Canada conference with a sunrise ceremony from Wolastoq elders by the St John River. Then it was straight into the opening session with a full house in Fredericton and many online globally #WFCC2024

Check out this really interesting work by @shiva_khanal, in which he examines high-elevation Himalayan forests with some of the densest biomass in the world. Nice work Shiva! #fg0040" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
