The SAVE Act is standing in the way of real progress.   This week, Congress passed a bill that would turn innovations from San Diego into businesses. But, Trump is refusing to sign it unless his so-called SAVE Act is passed—a bill designed to make it harder for people to vote.   We can’t let partisan politics derail real results. I’ll keep fighting for legislation that actually delivers for San Diegans.

Update! My Save Our Sequoias Act passed the House yesterday. This legislation would reduce dangerous fuel buildup, protect wildlife habitat, and cut through red tape so that paperwork doesn’t get in the way of saving these ancient trees. I look forward to getting it passed into law.

One of the most important parts of my job is to bring home federal resources that improves quality of life and delivers real, tangible benefits for San Diegans. @SDCCD’s CyberLab Incubator is exactly the kind of project the federal government should support. It was great to celebrate the funding for this innovative lab, and to tour their basic needs center that provides food, clothing, haircuts, and more to City students.

Yesterday I was horrified to learn of yet another antisemitic attack on innocent Jewish Americans. The ramming and shooting of Temple Israel in Michigan happened in addition to two shootings at synagogues in Canada and men in San Jose, CA being assaulted for speaking Hebrew. No person of any faith should ever live in fear to practice their religion or speak their native language. We must all work to root out hate wherever it occurs. Yesterday, I talked with Nyrine from AFGE TSA Local 1260 about what TSA employees are feeling as the DHS shutdown reaches day 27. Some still haven’t received back pay from last year’s shutdown and they’ll now miss another paycheck tomorrow, not to mention long lines and flight delays for air travelers. I introduced a bill to fund TSA while we continue to negotiate much-needed reforms to ICE and I’ll work to get it passed so our federal employees don’t pay the price for Congress’ inaction.

I have a bill that would allow the DHS Secretary (no matter who that is) to use existing funding from the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” to keep TSA staffed and paid while we negotiate much-needed reforms to ICE. Federal employees and travelers shouldn’t pay the price for Congress’ inaction.

So much for the “President of Peace.”  President Trump must explain to Congress why he’s focused on international conflicts and not addressing the challenges we face at home - from our skyrocketing cost-of-living to the healthcare crisis and more.

It was great to volunteer with Meals on Wheels this week. They care for roughly 2,000 seniors and disabled veterans in San Diego County every year, delivering food and checking in on our neighbors. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who power this important service!

On the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday, I’m reflecting on the legacy of so many civil rights icons who faced hatred and violence in their pursuit of the right to use their voice at the ballot box. I will always work to protect this fundamental cornerstone of our democracy.
