Democrats want cleaner, more reliable, and cheaper energy. But to deliver renewables and transmission, we need permitting reform to modernize our ancient environmental laws to strip out needless process impediments. Renewable developers tell us that speed and certainty are more important to them than subsidies. And 90% of gigawatts waiting to be approved and connected are non-emitting. We should get out of our own way. Too many Democrats see permit reform as a negotiating *give* rather than a *get.* That’s backwards. It’s impossible to meet our energy goals without fixing the law.

My Nuclear REFUEL Act just passed unanimously out of the Energy Subcommittee🚨   This bill would allow for innovative new nuclear reactors to effectively use & recycle spent fuel to generate energy, like the fuel stored at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, rather than let it just sit there next to the ocean or communities.

It's essential that Mexico is held to its commitments under the USMCA to ensure lasting progress for our region. And if we walk away, we risk undoing hard-won progress and leave San Diego exposed to more pollution and economic setbacks. 3/3

In 2019, I voted to enact this agreement because it delivered $300 million to tackle the Tijuana River’s sewage crisis and upheld trade agreements supporting nearly 40,000 jobs in our region. Since then, we’ve secured even more funding, broken ground on new infrastructure, improved water quality, and strengthened cross-border cooperation — but this is just the beginning. 2/3

The USMCA has been pivotal for San Diego, a city long plagued by cross-border pollution and chronic sewage spills largely caused by Mexico’s failing infrastructure, which threatens our beaches, public health, and local economy. A 🧵

Two tragedies in one week at the hands of ICE agents demands change. Families deserve a thorough investigation, neighborhoods deserve peace, and the public needs trust. My Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act would hold ICE agents accountable, require always-on body cameras, and give agents the training to actually de-escalate so that communities aren’t bracing for the next tragedy. My prayers and condolences go out to grieving loved ones.

Last month, Congress passed the largest bipartisan housing package in decades. Even though President Trump refused to sign it, it became law anyway — proof that Democrats and Republicans can still work together to get things done without the president's say-so. I'm especially glad my Housing Supply Expansion Act made the cut. My bill will lower manufactured housing costs and expand one of the most affordable paths to homeownership.

I secured @OceanDiscInst's first grant in my City Council days! It was great to visit this week and see the organization hard at work to educate students about oceanography and STEM careers. This is exactly the kind of effort the federal government should be funding, not cutting.

Since Republicans let ACA tax credits expire in January, over 100,000 Californians have dropped their Affordable Care Act coverage. In some states, more than 20% of ACA enrollees have dropped. I’ve often said that the United States of America is the greatest democracy in the history of the world, but it depends on us not being so divided against ourselves. It’s an honor to serve CA50 in Congress and I’ll always do my part to ensure we continue to strive for a more perfect union.  This Fourth of July, I stopped by Liberty Station and other community events around San Diego to commemorate our nation’s 250th birthday. Gen. Donahue is a highly decorated Special Operations commander. Secretary Hegseth is forcing him to step down, along with countless others deemed “insufficiently loyal to the Trump administration.” No one embodies a warrior ethos better than Gen. Donahue.
