Imām Aḥmad Razā Khān Barelvī (1272–1340 AH / 1856–1921 CE) writes: “The truth of the matter is this: that the common hookah, in the manner wherein it is in use throughout the lands of the world among both the vulgar and the refined, nay, even amongst the eminent scholars of the Two Noble Sanctuaries, may Allāh increase them in honour and ennoblement, is, in the judgment of the Sacred Law, licit and permissible, and for its prohibition there exists, in the pure Sharīʿah, no proof whatsoever.” — Ḥuqqatu al-Marjān li-Muhimm Ḥukm al-Dukhān

Muslim Attitudes Regarding Smoking: In the current Islamic consciousness, smoking is considered a questionable (discouraged or impressible) act. This is a recent normative crystalization. Historically, many authorities deemed it permissible and even smoked.

@IbneKhan01 That was before the 1940-50s where it became apparent that the consumption of tobacco is highly toxic to human health, something the Shari'a obviously does prohibit.

@wannabemuhadith Na to be honest, two people of knowledge should be sticking to the rules of مناظرة. If one doesn’t know the rules then they shouldn’t debate. Asrar even asked him what rules did he study to make the conversation easier for him.

@Tarrasbulba123 I don’t know why he calls himself logic if it’s very evident how poor his mantiq skills are. Like, it’s really embarrassing and not even laughable.

I did it I finished Ibn Khaldun’s Muqaddimah In Arabic It took me ~4 months but it wasn’t too hard to navigate because I’ve read books about it before A mind that arrives only once in a civilization. It filled me with some bittersweet pride that Tunis, our Tunis, was once capable of giving the world a thinker like him. The greatest African/Ifriqiyan after Saint Augustine

i’m not really on a madhab rn, still learning. salafi approach just makes sense to me (qur’an & sunnah), but i don’t see it as a madhab. and yeah I respect all the scholars fr like Abu Hanifa, Malik ibn Anas, Al-Shafi‘i, Ahmad ibn Hanbal … they’re way above us.

New series of threads under way! A complete history of the First Saudi State (1744-1818) After seeing how amazing this book was, I’ve decided to go through the entire book, dividing it up into various threads that I will be posting in order. The book covers the entire history of First Saudi State. Each treaty, each battle, each stage of expansion, from the beginning of Sh Muḥammad Ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb’s life all the way to the collapse of the First Saudi State at the hands of Ibrāhīm Pāshā in 1818, a complete history of the First Saudi State will be posted in a number of parts on this account. The book is divided into the following 10 chapters: 1) The Political Conditions in Najd and Its Surroundings before the Establishment of the First Saudi State and the Emergence of the Daʾwah of Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb 2) The Religious Conditions in Najd before the Establishment of the First Saudi State and the Emergence of the Daʿwah 3) A Historical Survey of the Spread of Polytheism and Creedal Deviations in the Arabian Peninsula and Its Surroundings before the Establishment of the First Saudi State and the Emergence of the Daʾwah 4) The Daʾwah from Ḥuraymilāʾ to the Covenant of Dirʿiyyah and the Resolve of Āl Saʿūd to Support the Shaykh Despite the Dangers Surrounding Dirʿiyyah 5) The Victories of the Daʿwah in Najd and al-Aḥsāʾ after the Coalition of Its Opponents against It 6) The Rule of the First Saudi State Encompassed Most of the Arabian Peninsula 7) The First Saudi State and the Ottoman Crescent 8) Ottoman Propaganda against the First Saudi State 9) The Campaign of Ṭūsūn and Muḥammad ʿAlī Pāshā against the First Saudi State 10) The Campaign of Ibrāhīm Pāshā against Najd After these 10 chapters, the author gives a bonus chapter regarding the fate of those remaining from Āl Saʾūd and Āl al-Shaykh, those who were martyred, those who were exiled to Egypt and remained there, and those who returned to Najd. May Allāh make this series a beneficial one.
