Alex Cora tells the media that Masataka Yoshida will likely get his first start of the season on Sunday, per @SmittyOnMLB.

My fav part will continue to be those uncomfortable post-game interviews like today’s where Cora is asks how he felt about Marcelo coming in with the big pinch hit and Cora just deadpanning with the “we are going to play everyone bs” and the clear vibe of “I really don’t like this kid and Breslow made me put him on the roster.”

My favorite part of the Marcelo/IKF platoon is gonna be the amount of pinch hit knocks Celo has following an 0-2 day for IKF

@DanBFox1287 Yet, listen to Cora postgame comments when asked about Mayer’s performance off the bench today. He kinda shrugged it off, didn’t really praise him and says, “yeah, good, we are going to use everyone blah blah blah” he just doesn’t really like this kid (seems to be the vibe)

He gets overshadowed because he’s not Roman Anthony (who is?) but Marcelo Mayer is going to be a very good baseball player. Forget the elite exit velos and defense. He just looks like a great baseball player.

@EdHand89 For a team that emphasizes “hitting the ball in the air to the pullside” they really do a horrible job of executing that in games (yes, I’m accounting for Spring training games too and yes this applies to Roman who needs to elevate the ball consistently$.

@tylermilliken_ True, but the kid has got to start elevating the ball and doing damage. Game 1, I know but it was a problem all Spring except when he was around Bregman who seems to be the fly ball whisperer for him.

I don’t get why people are acting like starting IKF at second on Opening Day is some kind of war crime. Yeah, he’s not flashy, but with how the rest of the roster is built I’m not losing my mind over giving him a shot. Mayer’s gonna get time early too, we’ll see how it plays out. If it’s July and IKF is hitting 5th with a .600 OPS, fine, be mad. But it’s literally Opening Day…we don’t know anything yet.

@TolleEnthusiast Mayer has to take hitting lefties a little more seriously if he wants to play full time. There were times this spring he didn’t take the bat off his shoulder against LHP, and he’s definitely capable of hitting it

Exactly. IKF costing the Jays the WS is not mentioned enough. I can’t imagine a worse combo in a tight game this year than IKF on 2nd or 3rd representing the winning run and relying on the worst 3B coach in all MLB in Tim Hudson trying to figure out whether to send him or hold him. Train wreck!

@TolleEnthusiast IKF is fucking awful and last year put up one of the worst qualified hitting seasons in the MLB over the past 25 years. He also cost the blue jays the World Series. It’s not that difficult to see why people are pissed off
