@ribbonpodcast Looking forward to listening! Important not to get carried away etc but the speed of change in system and performance certainly backs up Harley’s theory that this squad is a much better footballing one than Sadler’s approach would have us believe!

@JellisSzn @WFCJamie2 That’s it. It’s no wonder tensions rise across our fanbase once we veer towards spring, isn’t?! 🙈

A quick skim through the last few seasons’ results suggests today may well be the first time we’ve won an away game in the month of March since 2018 😳 #saddlers

Easy to say this after a big win against the odds (as it is to give an interview like that), but I’m struggling to remember a better post-match than that from a Walsall manager. Do I think he should get the job? No. But top marks for showing what this team is capable of

“It was a really proud day to lead the team out and I was really pleased with how they performed.” 👏 Darren Byfield on a productive afternoon at the Mornflake Stadium.

@RobJNumber13 FWIW - the first time I said Sadler Out was after the game on Sat. Always been in favour until then.

Feel for Mat Sadler. He should’ve been put out of his misery last May. You could argue he has been a victim of two good runs in two separate seasons, which the inability to recreate later in the season has been his downfall. My take - I reckon he’ll be in L1 before Walsall are.

@ChineseWS3 That’s a valid point I suppose. I guess the gamble (which looked like the right one for the best part of five months) was the hope that tide wouldn’t turn this season

@RobJNumber13 The reason I say it is that I and most other people knew that when the tide turned, whether that was after 1 game or 25, he would be beaten over the head with last seasons failures/people would draw comparisons. Everyone needed a clean break.

@MattDVale @KamCavanagh Agree 100%. Such a strange set of circumstances. Being in the top 3/7 yet feeling the weight equivalent to a relegation battle was an emotion fans of no other club could appreciate

We had a coach with genuine connections to the club. His young players played well and attracted interest. We won loads of football matches. We were hardly outside the top one, let alone the top seven. Yet it felt like I was being repeatedly punched in the stomach. It was time.

@dazfellows The project angle is an interesting one. Not sure how much of this was Sadler or the board but the policy of signing players on their way up rather than as a pre-retirement destination is one we should stick to IMO

5. But we move on. This project looks over (to me) and a new era will begin. Just now, League 1 seems further away than ever before but we all know that the real thrill comes with the chase. The king is dead. We go again. Forever Walsall 🔴⚫️

1. I find today very sad, but equally inevitable. You don’t get many managers/head coaches who respect this football club like Mat Sadler always did. But when push comes to shove we’re in a results business and you can’t hide away from them, particularly at home.

And that’s before we consider which specific managerial deficiency leads to massive drop-offs in form at exactly the same point in two consecutive seasons

Right decision. Players looked completely helpless after full-time last night. Think @OnePodBeyond got it right in suggesting that the same results in a different order might have been acceptable. Problem is, two wins from 14 (against two of the league’s worst) isn’t acceptable

@AliMaxwell_ Makes the second half of last season even more baffling. I’m still blaming you guys at @NTT20Pod. We were never the same after the “best League Two side of all time” episode 🙈😂

How’s about a bit of credit to Sadler… After last seasons implosion, here we sit joint top, yes it’s only 7 games - but 6 of those 7 currently sit in the top 9 as it stands - we’ve lost to 2nd and 4th, both 1-0… 👏 👏 Long way to go, but looks like there is no hangover, yet!

@MartinE864 @Percie16 Yep, couldn’t agree more. I said similar the other day - the same people booing the promising players we have off the pitch will be the ones moaning when they slip away to another club on a free after refusing a new contract.

@Percie16 100% with you. I said in previous posts that I've started calling it out at the time to people. I spoke out about the booing of Matt coming on to the pitch on Tuesday and I did it at the end of last season. More people need to do this to make the embarrassing few think for once.

This is bang on. As a fanbase last season we helped contribute to our own downfall. You can’t just keep posting constant negative crap about the club and expect it to not have an impact. It’s needs to start being called out for what it is. Idiocy.
Captain Toptrumps@bananapenguin82

@Percie16 If you have an opinion that goes against the flow of toxic crap then you receive a load of abuse. Last week after the Grimsby game I was called a twat and a wanker for saying it was an entertaining game.
