The Robert Stephenson Trust

2nd May 1830, Robert Stephenson put locomotive Invicta to the test on the Canterbury & Whitstable Railway, reaching speeds of 17 mph. The 12 hp locomotive was built by Robert Stephenson & Co., in Newcastle. Invicta is proudly displayed at Whitstable Museum @WhitsMuseum.

In glorious weather, we have today had the enormous pleasure of starting the testing phase of the 1825 replica train at the Weardale Railway. This project has been over 2 years in the planning and will be the central component of SDR 200 in September.

Very exciting plans for the year at Shildon, and great to see the statue, prominently positioned near the 1823 Gaunless Bridge. Of course, time was taken to appreciate the original 1829 ‘Rocket’ (here whilst work is ongoing at NRM York), and the fine portrait of Robert. 2/2

A number of Robert Stephenson Trust Trustees were privileged to be invited to @LocomotionSHD this evening to hear about plans for this year together with welcoming the statue of Robert Stephenson to the North East, with it being on a ten year loan to the museum. 1/2
