Almost forgotten now, Elisaveta Fen (Lydia Jackson, nee Jiburtovich, 1899-1983) was a prominent figure in the White Russian community in London. Her translations of Chekhov’s plays are still in use by theatres, she wrote valuable memoirs, and was George Orwell‘s unrequited love.

Today's announcement of the @WarwickPrizeWiT seems like a great opportunity to share that World Editions just acquired rights to publish #StateofEmergency, written by @JeremyTiang, in the US and UK. We are over the moon to publish Jeremy's original work!

“Many English people thought that the revolution would splash elixir of life on Russia...what infantile ignorance!” - Ivan Bunin, first Russian writer to get a Nobel Prize (died #OTD 70 years ago). He was a brilliant translator from English though his spoken language was poor.
