the most clarifying thing I’ve learned by paying attention to MLB labor relations for the last decade is that some of you are just losers. you are sad losers who wish that a billionaire would smile at you for a fleeting moment while sticking his hand in your wallet

Based on @JeffPassan great piece on ESPN about possible trade partners next month for the @Mariners…. Would you be willing to trade 4+ years of club control with Emerson Hancock for 2 months of Tarik Skubal?

He can't both be the thing we all want to get rid of but also what the Tiger's want the most. If we all want him to be part of deal, isn't that a good indicator that maybe he's not that valuable even at his current control?

Either George is a fantastic pitcher we can't get rid of, or he's the one we want to give away, either way, doesn't really seem like a great value option for Skubal.

@OldWillieBoy I would love it to be honest. I just kinda think the same reason every Mariner fan wants it to be George is the same reason they don't really want him. What does he do to turn around your franchise in a meaningful way? He's kinda mid.

@ABBroadcaster04 @MarinersSteve You could be right. I just don't think teams are very interested in George in particular. But I have no idea really.

@Ryniden @MarinersSteve What other team (buyer) would have a current mlb pitcher in their rotation that they’d offer???? Let alone with 2.5 years of CC. I think something like Kirby + Farmelo 100% gets the job done

@ABBroadcaster04 @MarinersSteve Other teams will be making offers for Skubal as well. You aren't just giving the Tigers something they want, it has to be better than all the other offers too.

@Ryniden @MarinersSteve Why would they not? He’d be their best pitcher right away and he has 2.5 years of club control left

@Bob_Saggett_ @MarinersSteve If you think we have 6 "elite" starting pitchers you are mistaken. Skubal is on another level to everyone we have except Woo, and to be fair to Skubal, Woo hasn't won back to back Cy Young awards. Why couldn't you get a bat as well?

@Ryniden @MarinersSteve You’re an absolute idiot for making this deal. The club needs bats. You only use 3 SP’s in the playoffs and we have 6, all elite. Skubals good, he’s hurt this year, and you overpay wildly for 3 months to then have bats go cold and lose in the playoffs. Stupid.

@MarinersSteve I guess it really depends on if they plan to compete next year right away, or if its a planned 2-3 turn around type deal. Kirby looks a lot better if you plan on going for it the next 2 years. If not though I think it starts and ends with Miller unfortunately.

@Ryniden Yeah, I get it. I think in any world where there is an offer Kirby would be the big piece though.

@luke_arkins I get the frustration, his lack of length at times is annoying. but hes still great. Our fans sometimes could really do with watching some other players around baseball. I am quite happy with Logan, thank you very much lol.

Entering today, Cole Young had play more innings in the field than *any* big-leaguer this season. Randy Arozarena and Julio Rodríguez are also top-five. #Mariners

I always wondered how Pennsylvania could go the wrong way in key Presidential elections. Then you see the salary cap dialogue from Pirates fans and now it makes perfect sense.

@TortsIllustrtd I hate the competitiveness and fairness argument. the other leagues with salary caps experience less parity, more of the top teams in the playoffs year after year after year. it changes nothing in that regard

@PrimeWallner @suicidefrotline @AndThatsBB not to mention there are obvious examples of cheap owners running a good organization, its got nothing to do with payroll. Anyone who thinks their shit team is going to be good because the... last place Mets spend a lot of money and cant anymore is beyond help.

@suicidefrotline @AndThatsBB Yep every cheap team will stay at he floor while all the big markets will just keep spending on player development and bolstering their analytics departments. Nothing will change besides depressed wages

@michaeldf88 @TheRedStripesSG Ah yes, as opposed to the known parity leagues that see nothing but the chiefs and patriots for 15 years or even worse, the NBA. How many finals were the Warriors in in a 10 year period?

NFL has one because they had no free agency and that’s what they had to give up to get one NHL has one because teams were legitimately going bankrupt and they needed to stabilize the league NBA has one because salaries were rising faster than revenues and teams were losing money Owners took advantage of massive issues in those other leagues in order to institute a salary cap. MLB doesn’t have those issues. MLB owners just don’t want to pay their players a fair wage to keep them. In any other business, the public would be happy to see those owners fail
Brewer Sooner@BrewerSooner

Gonna be funny when they accept a salary cap. Every other league has one.

“Tie the cap to league revenue” sounds fair until you realize owners spent 30 years engineering what counts as league revenue. The Braves don’t just sell tickets. They own The Battery. Mixed-use development. Hotels. Restaurants. Parking. None of it counts as baseball related revenue. Cubs own the rooftops across from Wrigley. Rangers built Globe Life District. Cardinals own Ballpark Village. The Mets are building a casino. The players fill those seats and attract the fans. The players make that real estate valuable. The players are the product that turns a parking lot into a $500M development. But Freddie Freeman’s contract counts against the cap. The Battery’s hotel revenue doesn’t count toward the pool. The NFL cap works because owners can’t spin gate revenue into a shell LLC and hide it from the players. MLB owners can and do. A cap tied to “league revenue” in baseball is a ceiling built on a rigged floor.
KCW0LF@KCW0LF

@rationalyankee They need to say the billionaires are making this amount of money and they don’t want to pay us, the workers, our fair share. There are ways to make sure you get the correct amount of money and also have a salary cap. The NFL does it. The cap is a % of the league revenues.
