Statement: Eleven (11) Days to Go: The Clock Is Ticking for the 2026 Sikuvile Journalism Awards Entries Date: 19 March 2026 The countdown has officially begun. There are now only 15 days left to submit entries for the prestigious Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards.

With a tight judging schedule and extensive preparations required ahead of the awards ceremony in June, the partners South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF) and Standard Bank, are calling on journalists to act now and secure their entries well before the closing date.

The final deadline for submissions is 31 March 2026, and journalists across the country are encouraged not to wait until the last week or worse, the final day to submit their work.

On Tuesday, Moxii Africa’s Lister Namumba and Ntsako Manganyi attended the Elections Training Workshop for Journalists in Polokwane. This forms part of a nationwide election training programme implemented by the @IECSouthAfrica in partnership with @SALGA_Gov , @SAEditorsForum and @AfricaCheck . Moxii Africa contributed to the training through a session titled Dealing with Mis/Disinformation, which focused on gender in elections and election reporting. The session also introduced journalists to civic tech tools such as Real411, MARS, PADRE and i3. #LGE2026

The programme forms part of a nationwide initiative announced last week by IEC Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, during a national media briefing held in Centurion, Pretoria, where he outlined the Commission’s preparations for the upcoming municipal elections.

The media training programme is implemented in partnership with SANEF, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA), Africa Check and Moxii Africa. Limpopo Electoral Officer Ms Nkaro Matela will address the event.

SANEF also calls on the Congress of SA Trade Unions (COSATU), the trade union federation to which SAMWU is affiliated, to condemn in the strongest terms the reported actions of apparent SAMWU members against media workers and to institute appropriate sanctions.

As a consequence, SANEF calls on the SAPS to act swiftly to apprehend these thugs.
