Maybe not that deal exactly, but the Nuggets are in cap hell and have peaked. There’s not many moves they can make.
If they are able to trade Jokic + Braun for a top 4 pick, top 15-40 player, and young players / future firsts … it’s at least worth consider

The Nuggets are in a tough spot.
Aaron Gordon hasn’t been durable.
Christian Braun has a bad contract.
Cam Johnson is a shrinking violet.
Tim Hardaway isn’t a playoff player.
Peyton Watson is a free agent.
David Adelman isn’t the leader that Michael Malone was.
They have limited assets: No young players with value, the 26th pick this year, and pick swaps. That’s really it.
Jamal Murray had the best regular season of his career and Nikola Jokic received MVP votes. But they were both so bad during the playoffs. Jokic and Murray falling short in the playoffs again, plus the lack of impactful moves that can be made to improve the roster, naturally has to raise serious questions about how open the contention window really is for Denver.

The "3-2-1 lottery" proposal, named to represent the number of lottery balls per team, would expand the lottery from 14 to 16 teams. Teams that do not qualify for the playoffs or play-in tournament but stay out of the relegation zone (spots four through 10) would receive three lottery balls each. Teams with a bottom-three record -- the relegation zone -- would have just two lottery balls but have a floor of the 12th pick while the rest of the 13 lottery teams could fall as far as the 16th pick. The 9th and 10th play-in seeds in each conference receive two lottery balls each while the losers of the 7-8 play-in games receive one lottery ball each. In addition, no team would be able to win the top pick in consecutive years or be able to win three consecutive top-five picks. Teams also would not be able to protect picks in the 12 to 15 slots going forward.

Sometimes simple is the way to go.
The only changes needed for the NBA Draft are a flattening of the odds and a lottery for the top 8, not just the top 4.

Very similar to the concept I reported was discussed on the last GM call a few weeks ago. I’m extremely happy with this. The relegation zone is truly awesome.

I’m willing to give the new lottery system a chance but it’s never been harder to build a good sustainable team in the modern NBA
- Unpredictable lottery system
- Lack of high end Free Agents every year
- Apron Restrictions
- Inflated draft pick trade market
It’s going to be fascinating how the rest of this CBA’s tenure unfolds
