Eight months after Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany @Makeiev confirmed in an interview with European Pravda that German-delivered IRIS-T SLM fire units have succeeded in intercepting ballistic missiles in a few cases, we likely now know which one. Two days ago, the Ukrainian Air Command Center has published a video about IRIS-T SLM in which a Ukrainian soldier standing in front of an IRIS-T SLM launcher claims that he intercepted 25 aerial targets, with most of them being cruise missiles and one being an “Iskander missile”. Of course this still could refer to the Iskander-K, which is a cruise missile, but given how he structured and worded the sentence, I believe he doesn't refer to Iskander-K but to Iskander-M. “Here, on IRIS-T, the majority of targets are cruise missiles. We've even destroyed an Iskander missile.” But I want to highlight again because I read people spreading this from time to time. IRIS-T SLM is no alternative to Patriot or SAMP/T (NG). IRIS-T SLM's BMD capabilities are very limited and missiles should (in my opinion) therefore be saved up for intercepting cruise missiles except for absolutely necessary intercepts of other targets.
