78 million people worldwide have #Glaucoma, predicted to rise to 111.8 million by 2040 (World Glaucoma Association). Glaucoma is referred to as the "silent thief of sight". Many people have no symptoms. Regular #EyeTests are important to detect any signs of glaucoma early.

According to the World Glaucoma Association (WGA), 1 in 200 people aged 40 have #Glaucoma, rising to 1 in 8 by age 80. Anyone can develop glaucoma, but the risk increases if you're aged over 40. Find out more about Glaucoma: lookafteryoureyes.org/eye-conditions… #GlaucomaWeek #EyeHealth

February is #AMDawareness Month. Did you know #AMD is the leading cause of sight loss in the UK? AMD can cause visual symptoms such as blurred or distorted vision. It's important to get in touch with your #optometrist for advice if you experience any changes to your vision.

𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 & 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 A PI&E Strategy includes the public in decision-making, fostering trust & transparency. The SCONe PI&E strategy uses a three-tier approach: involvement, engagement, and consultation.

SCONe has been building a retinal image resource within the National Safe Haven since 2020 and are using it for research into eye diseases, such as AMD, as well as neurodegenerative diseases, such as dementia. NeurEYE is the name given to the neurodegenerative disease work.

SCONe’s Chief Investigator Prof. Baljean Dhillon and PI Prof. Miguel Bernabeu feature in a video about the link between the retina & brain health, alongside Ian Cameron from Cameron Optometry, one of the early practices to contribute to SCONe. Watch here: youtu.be/oNJMflUwoXE
