Helping researchers turn breakthrough ideas into meaningful health innovations. 🧪💡 The University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine supports innovative research projects from our investigators as they seek to translate their most exciting ideas into new commercial applications. Designed to bridge the gap between discovery research and real-world application, University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine’s 3P grant supports early-stage health and biomedical innovations at a critical point—when promising ideas often struggle to advance toward patenting and commercialization. Over the past several years, 3P funding has played a pivotal role in helping Faculty researchers move beyond proof of concept. Discover how the 3P program is helping turn exciting research ideas into real-world health solutions ➡️ uottawa.ca/faculty-medici… @uOttawa

CIHR funding rate: 13.6%. Early 2000s: 30%+. Canada’s new $1.7B Impact+ program recruits talent — but without increased Tri-Council base funding, we risk further strain on an already stretched system. We’re calling for $1B over 5 years. Support here: tinyurl.com/33c5av46

2 of the Behavioural Neuroscience review panels (BSA and BSC) were both at 11%. So many of the neuroscientists with grants in these panels (that I have spoken to) are between grants and in real fear of having to close up shop! If we keep funding 4/35 grants, labs will close!
Julio Martinez@JulioMTNeuro

@CIHR_IRSC 11% funding rates will slowly destroy our health research ecosystem. We continue to hire more researchers, and we want to do so, of course, with so many brilliant minds around, yet funding remains the same or decreases.

Plasmids generated in our recent study are available from Addgene: addgene.org/browse/article… AAV-CAG-FLEX-jGCaMP8m-P2A-CyRFP1 is useful for 2P imaging of Ca2+ and filler signals using a 920 nm laser.

Our new paper is out in @ScienceAdvances! We found that dendritic compartment-specific spine “formation” during adolescence is critical for cortical development. We also found that schizophrenia-related genes are important in this process. (1/6) science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Using tissue clearing and super-resolution imaging, we found that spine density is highly skewed in apical dendrites of cortical L5 neurons in mice. The middle part had the highest spine density. In contrast, spine density was almost uniform in basal and oblique dendrites. (2/6)
