SLTP - Satpuda Landscape Tiger Partnership

These quarterly calls are a humble effort to foster meaningful discussions on conservation, facilitate knowledge exchange among team members, and celebrate each other's successes.

Last Friday, the field team members of SLTP partner organizations participated in their quarterly call and knowledge exchange session. 15 members from various regions of the Saptuda Landscape joined the call to share updates on their ongoing projects and future plans.

@BNHSIndia has been conducting awareness programmes in this landscape for the past two decades, supported by the @BornFreeFDN . This formal partnership with TATR aims to further nurture future conservation leaders and reduce human-wildlife conflict in this critical habitat.

SLTP partner @BNHSIndia has joined hands with the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) through a newly signed MoU to deliver nature education and community awareness programmes across 95 buffer zone villages surrounding the reserve.

Known as Tiger Ambassadors, or locally as Primary Response Teams (PRT), they help in managing conflict situations, spreading conservation awareness among fellow community members, and supporting the forest department by combating forest fires and reporting wildlife movements.

About this programme: Supported by @BornFreeFDN , our partner Tiger Research and Conservation Trust (TRACT)has been working with local communities living around tiger reserves to select and train a team of volunteers to become first responders in during conflict situations.

Happy to share that SLTP received recognition for its conservation work at the International Tiger Week Awards Event held on the 12th of April in Ranthambore. On behalf of our partners, Yashvardhan Dalmia, the Network Support Officer of SLTP, accepted the recognition.

Dedicated sessions also allowed partners to report on their conservation work inside and outside Protected Areas in central India, focusing on wildlife coexistence and habitat conservation.

The SLTP annual seminar was successfully held from February 7–10 at Gir National Park. The event included discussion sessions, presentations and field visits helping partners gain insight into the local forest department’s initiatives for managing and conserving Asiatic lions.

Supported by the @BornFreeFDN these seminars also enable our SLTP partners to meet in person and report on activities, discuss work plans, address issues impacting wildlife habitats in central India, and adopt strategies to enable conservation and coexistence.

With this year’s theme being ‘Enabling coexistence: An integrated approach to wildlife conservation outside Protected Areas’, this seminar would provide partners with an opportunity to understand the conservation and conflict resolution work being carried out in Gir.
