At today’s press conference with @EP_President @RobertaMetsola and my co-rapporteur @carlatavares_ps, we presented the European Parliament’s position on the next long-term EU Budget. The report we negotiated and Parliament adopted today calls for a €2 trillion budget that prioritises defence, competitiveness, security and agriculture, backed by new own resources to match Europe’s ambitions. @Europarl_EN stands united behind a strong position. We now expect the Council to adopt its mandate so negotiations can start and the budget can be agreed on time.

Predictability in the next long-term EU Budget is critical for beneficiaries. Farmers, researchers, regions and infrastructure projects need long-term clarity on available EU funding. Without certainty, Europe risks losing investment and talent elsewhere. #MFF #EPlenary

Romanian Socialists have officially joined forces with the country’s anti-European extremists. They have just tabled a no-confidence motion against reformist, pro-European, centre-right Prime Minister Ilie @Bolojan. Their alliance confirms what many already know: the Romanian Socialists’ pro-European label is declarative, not real. This action recalls the recent years when they attacked the rule of law, undermined the judiciary, and turned against European values and institutions. #Romania

Strong support today in the @Europarl_EN for the priorities of the EU’s next long-term budget. Thank you, @carlatavares_ps, and all colleagues, for the strong cooperation over the past months. With this vote, Parliament has adopted its position for the upcoming negotiations on the next #EUBudget with the Commission and Member States.

Repaying common EU debt must not come at the expense of beneficiaries. We propose new own resources to finance repayment above the budget ceilings, including digital revenues. This protects EU programmes while strengthening the next #EUBudget. #EPlenary

The @Europarl_EN’s position on the next EU long-term Budget is clear: A strong budget for a strong Europe. Europe cannot do more with less. If we expect Europe to deliver on new priorities, we must equip it with the resources to do so through a stronger #EUBudget.

The world is changing. That is why we need a future EU budget that is sufficient, that is predictable and transparent. Europe must invest more in security, economic strength, energy independence, food security and cyber security. Our budget must match today’s challenges. #EUBudget #MFF

Today, in the #EPlenary, we vote on the priorities for the future long-term #EUBudget. The @Europarl_EN is setting the tone on ambition and timing with a strong position on the next budget. We support a targeted 10% increase to match Europe’s growing security and competitiveness needs, protect farmers and regions, and invest in defence and innovation. Doing more with less is a myth. Now the Council must step up and engage on a strong, timely budget.

This week in #EPlenary: we vote on the on the next EU’s long-term budget priorities, which my colleague, @carlatavares_ps, and me have negotiated on behalf of the @Europarl_EN. A budget tailored for all Europeans. A budget that prioritises security and competitiveness, but not at the expense of agriculture and cohesion. A budget that can adapt easier to future potential shocks and crises. A budget that can ensure predictability. A budget that is sufficient and transparent in its implementation. A budget that will constitute the European Parliament’s position in future negotiations with the @EU_Commission and the Governments of the Member States. More: siegfriedmuresan.eu/agenda

The leading Romanian Socialist and Romanian anti-European extreme right politicians confirmed this morning the intention of the two parties to coordinate in view of tabling a joint motion of no confidence against the reformist, pro-European Romanian Prime Minister, Ilie @Bolojan. Their cooperation recalls the recent past, when Romanian Socialists attacked the rule of law, the judiciary, European values, and European institutions. Their pro-European label is declarative only. In practice, they align themselves with anti-European extremists. #Romania #Bolojan

Very close coordination between Socialists and anti-European, populist extreme right in #Romania: Anti-European party announces they are ready to table a motion of censure against the reformist Prime Minister which they will table in May. They are also ready to give socialist party time to table its own motion of censure which extreme right is ready to vote. There can not be any closer cooperation and coordination than this.

What happened in #Romania this week: One year ago, pro-European, centre-right Prime Minister Ilie @Bolojan took office and formed a governing coalition with centre-right parties, the Socialist Party and the Renew Party. He inherited a 9% deficit and an unstable economy from the former socialist prime minister. In less than a year, Prime Minister Bolojan cut the deficit from 9% to 7% and pushed reforms, as per the coalition agreement, in public administration and the pension system. This week, the Socialist Party withdrew its support. Yesterday, the socialist ministers resigned. Prime Minister Bolojan immediately appointed interim ministers to keep the government and the reforms running. What follows: The Prime Minister and the cabinet stay in office. Even so, they now need a new parliamentary majority. To be seen whether the so-called pro-European Socialist Party and extremist parties will join forces in Parliament.

Europe needs real resources. EU Budget should support farmers, regions, students and SMEs, and not make them pay the price. Debt repayments must stay outside the budget ceilings in the next #MFF.

Clear message today, in the #BUDG committee: No merging of funds for farmers and regions. We keep dedicated support and predictability for beneficiaries across Europe. #MFF
