On #MemorialDay we honour all the fallen and those who gave everything in the defence of liberty.  The people of Europe will never forget the sacrifice of so many young soldiers who fought and died in far away lands and whose bravery allowed subsequent generations to live free.  Places in Europe still organise a system, first started in 1945, whereby Allied servicemen graves are adopted, cared for, visited and taken care of by descendants of people they liberated in the Second World War.  Perhaps the best example is the Dutch town of Margraten, where some 8,000 US soldiers rest. Here, this tradition helps keep the memory of the fallen alive, and remains rooted in the town's culture and profoundly ingrained in the people who live there. We remember. We honour them today and every day.

Russia's latest indiscriminate attacks on Kyiv and Ukrainian cities have killed and injured yet more innocent people. We will not be silent. These acts of brutality do not serve to strengthen Russia's hand. It weakens it. The brave people of Ukraine remain resilient and Europe will keep standing with them.

Russia’s intimidation and provocations against Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania are unacceptable and heighten tensions in the region. We stand firmly with the Baltic States. Excellent talks with His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the @fnc_uae, at @Europarl_EN in Strasbourg today. I expressed our full solidarity with the UAE in light of the serious security challenges following Iran’s attacks, and reaffirmed our commitment to lasting peace and stability in the region. On the margins of the EU-UAE Interparliamentary Meeting, we also discussed how to strengthen our partnership, advance free trade, and deepen parliamentary cooperation 🇪🇺🇦🇪

Europe stands united against threats on its borders. Our full solidarity goes to all people in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and our Eastern flank, facing danger from hostile drone activity linked to Russia and Belarus.
