“It’s just natural talent.” Bullshit. These 8 year-olds train 3 hours a day while your kid watches TV.

@Don_K_Williams Unpopular Opinion: I see this as the development of a "North American" system of play. I don't think it is a complete style of play, but it is one of the things (good or bad) that makes North American soccer unique. (It's the closest to a "system of play" that we have.)

After assessing tens of thousands of youth players it’s my conclusion that the through ball ⚽️ & balls into space are overused in the USA 🇺🇸 & Canadian 🇨🇦 youth system The idea of playing to feet, to the correct foot with pace & circulating the ball quickly to draw the defending team out of spaces is rare Every pass cannot & should not be a “killer pass” @SRUSA_Official

@PaulSpacey If he can do it live in front of an audience in the first few tries, then sign him... if this is the 5000th take on his self-filmed Insta video, I may have some doubts. (Great shot though)

There's something amazing as a ⚽️ coach when you make halftime adjustments, the players take in the information and execute which leads to success. It really brings together everything we talk about when working as a "team"

@AdvFtbAcad How is that unopposed... is there not a keeper? Looks like a great shot placement drill (probably on a player recovery day?)

Back when Real Madrid still had Kroos and Modric, they would run unopposed shooting drills like this. Coaches, what are your thoughts on this?:

@kieronbutton17 Complete a pass over 15 yards? But the rondo was only in an 8x8 grid!

Just an observation over the last year, seeing a lot of youth players (U13+) that struggle with accurate passes more than 15 yards? Is this because of recent coaching trends? Players not doing enough tech work? Curious what you’re seeing, coaches and players. Drop your thoughts and age group if you can.

@JoeAratari Wait until they get to D1 and have to lift, practice, play, eat right, travel, go to class, get treatment, study, do conditioning/speedwork, and get 8hrs of sleep. All day every day.

One of my club sport athletes (high level club soccer) sophomores today told me that her club coach said “If you want to play at that D1 level, you need to get stronger/faster.” This club practices 4x/wk and then travels most weekends leaving 1-2 days off at most for 6+ months a year, not counting their school sport. That leaves very little time to “get stronger/faster.” The clubs that want to push kids to high levels, tell them what they need to do (outside of skill work) but don’t facilitate the necessary opportunities (free time) to fully develop physically speaking.

The problem with American Soccer is that people THINK you have to pay a lot of money to have a relationship with the ball.

Pro tip: If you're afraid to take the risk, write down in excruciating detail what you're actually afraid of having happen. Step by step what happens next when you fail. You'll often find it's not so bad when you spell it out. Fear exists in the vague, not the specific.
