The world has not changed. Gabe has. If the Steam Machine was $800 or something, we could argue about if they were purely screwed by RAM prices...but at $1050 he's just planning his next yacht.

@mooreslawisdead It is crazy expensive based on our preconceived notions. But the world has changed. This is the new normal. Best deals are on Macs and Switch 2.

@JamesTheMuttz I dunno what you did, but my gaming tower PC cost me around 700 bucks with 40GB of DDR4-3200, an intel core i5-11400f, RTX 3060, 256GB Nvme SSD, 700w Psu and a decently good TUF gaming asus motherboard, just upgrading the GPU would give it more performance than the Steam Machine!

I keep seeing people complain about the price, so I’m throwing in my two cents: I dunno if you knew this, but.. IT IS A PC!! It’s not a console, it’s far more powerful than that, and far cheaper than literally most pre-built gaming PCs. Hecc, it’s about $200 cheaper than what my hand-built was, and that PC’s 7 years old now! Plus, the Steam Machine can literally be used like a PC, which is incredible! So TL;DR It’s a super affordable PC that’s roughly the size of the GameCube (if not smaller), not an overpriced console. If you say otherwise, I’m gonna cry I swear. Also: it not including a controller? Yeah, because it’s a PC and (presumably) assumes you have a mouse and keyboard already and maybe a controller. Don’t have a controller but want to play with one? Go to Goodwill and get a wired Logitech one for like $12, it’ll treat you well I promise. That’s my rant for the year, love y’all 💖🥰

@stagerbn They would just avoid making it both right for the consumer and not being an absolute monopoly. Apple proves time and time again how petty they are, often at the cost of its users to gain more money, and just to be petty to avoid actually complying with the law.

@stagerbn Agree to disagree I guess, I have the studies for cybersecurity and Apple could have very well implemented a secure alternative to comply with the DMA, it has been shared time and time again that Apple doesn’t tend to have consumer interests in mind that often, so no surprises.

@davidkrammer @jhonfellax Yeah, so instead leave Apple play with your data instead, Siri AI is still an AI (based on Gemini no less) wich is pretty much still allowed full access to all of that data, plus obviously still vulnerable to prompt injections and misguiding to leak data. So no excuse there.

@jhonfellax so you want apple to open up siri, so every ai provider can access ALL your private data on the phone, use it for training,... as far as i understand it thats what the eu wanted from apple. i do prefer the privacy focused approach from apple.

@kimmonismus Apple makes it clear they prefer not complying with the law and withholding features that are advertised as core iOS 27 features, as such falling into false advertising again and leaving users with the old Apple Intelligence that is absolutely useless for any use at all.

Apple makes it clear that Europe is itself to blame for the unavailability of Apple Intelligence. Apple says Siri AI won’t launch on iPhone and iPad in the EU because regulators interpret the DMA as requiring Apple to give rival AI assistants broad access to private user data and control over apps. Apple argues this would create major privacy and security risks, and says the European Commission rejected its proposed safeguards, including a "Trusted System Agent" and an 18-month rollout plan. As a result, there is currently no timeline for Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the EU. “We’re deeply disappointed that our EU users won’t have Siri AI on iPhone or iPad when we share our new software releases later this year,” said Craig Federighi." (...) "However, given the clear dangers to EU users and the regulators’ failure to acknowledge these risks, there is currently no timeline for Siri AI’s availability in the EU on iOS and iPadOS." EU overregulated itself. Again.

@Gemma570343 @flowstatevis @LawrenceGrace1 @BasicAppleGuy Then comply with the law and avoid the fine, is that simple. Apple is not above the law. And those who buy the iPhone 17 Pro or newer are entitled to get the same features everyone else gets with the device elsewhere, if not it’s just false advertising and malicious intent.
