@Acyn Anyone who believed "donations" would pay for the ballroom were absolute fucking gullible idiots. I said all along it'll be at least $2B in taxpayer spending. Probably closer to $5B by the time it's done.

Rep. Menendez responds to news that Republicans want to use taxpayer money for the White House ballroom. Menendez: There’s an affordability crisis out there. Nobody gives a shit about the ballroom except for the president.

@WarMonitor3 lol, I really would not say "never". Trump is an extremely weak and stupid president. If he gets something that looks like a return to status quo and a "pledge" of future nuclear discussions, he'll probably take it.

Iranian officials are hoping to end the war without a nuclear agreement in exchange for opening the strait of Hormuz. That is never going to happen...

@SanchoPanzy @EditrixLane @daveweigel The "donations" are not public, nor is that money real anyway. The ballroom plan will cost at least $5B in federal tax dollars, for a facility that will sit empty for most of the year. The temporary South Lawn tent was fucking fine, and it gets the job done.

I don't think the money is dark. I seem to remember the donations being made public. In fact, people have given grief to some of the companies that donated. I have my own qualms about how it looks. However, without going subterranean, I don't see how they get something of that capacity in the WH complex without it being that large.

@DaireCarragher Absolutely not. The only thing the water needs is regular cleaning, so it's clear and reflective. The blue paint is going to ruin the reflectivity and make it look like a cheap resort swimming pool. Still requires the same maintenance to keep it clean.

@mattsmith_news Notice how on the Channel 4 interview this turd (Burgelis) said the democrats need tons of outstate money... so they admit the elections for STATE offices are purchased by outside influence.

@PercyRogers3rd @WarMonitor3 You're kidding yourself. Trump launched this war thinking it would be over in 48 hours & Iran wouldn't fight back at all. They had no plan for a real war, and now they're desperate to restore the status quo before the economic damage starts cascading. Trump is in full retreat.

@WarMonitor3 Probably fake. What was the point in all the bombing then? No enrichment is a clear red line and Trump will not budge on that. You don’t send 3 aircraft carriers to the gulf to compromise on your red lines. War is coming.

@jwigderson @brhodes There were legitimate concerns, but the "most vocal critics" (Bibi, Lindsey Graham) were clearly motivated by a desire for war rather than de-escalation, they've wanted this war for decades.

I'm sure @brhodes wants to believe this rather than believe there were legitimate concerns about the agreement. However, it's pretty ridiculous to think that the critics, at the time the deal was made, were secretly hoping somebody would blunder into a war over a decade later.
Ben Rhodes@brhodes

Iran Deal put a lid on the nuclear program. It's loudest opponents in Israel and US needed to kill it bc they needed Iran to have an active program to justify war.

@Dlstoke Well--for one--the federal budget deficit has basically nothing to do with the real economy. I think the better question is why Americans keep falling for the stupid propaganda that cutting the deficit boosts the economy. I guess because they have no idea how anything works.

@ZFlawles1s @elections_w_etn While not a major part of the 2023 state supreme court ruling, their majority opinion did state that precincts that only touch over water are still considered contiguous-- as Door does touch Marinette & Oconto. But my 6D map is better.

@DanRShafer I agree with Tommy that Tiffany is a terrible weak candidate, but Tommy is probably not the answer, since literally no one under 40 has any memory of him, and even those over 40 don't remember him too well 25 years after he left office as governor.

@DerekPederson3 It's not normal or good for the US to do a regime change with any leader we don't like. Trump got very lucky that Venezuela didn't turn into a Syria-style civil war after they removed Maduro. Civil war might yet happen there. It's not easy or simple, and it's always a giant risk.

@jewandahalfmen @DrewPavlou Not "no one else". Russia/Putin was hugely responsible for the Syrian misery; they propped up the murderous Assad regime that should have collapsed in 2013, then they flew indiscriminate mass bombing campaigns against Syrian civilians for nearly a decade.

Siba is a Syrian lady in Germany. A country that has never wronged her people in any way. Instead, it gave her and thousands of her countrymen refuge from a civil war that, it must be repeated, was the fault of other Syrians and no one else. They didn’t have to do that. What was her message to Germany? “You slaughter our children, take our blood for granted… who would you be without us?” No good deed goes unpunished. You people will come to regret accommodating this naked resentment in the name of tolerance.
Martin Sonneborn@MartinSonneborn

@RickEsenberg Republicans probably should have proposed a compromise with Evers in 2022 that prioritized competitive districts, but instead they decided to get the state Supreme Court to cram through another extreme clownish gerrymander. Whoops, that backfired.

Dawg, Evers drew gerrymandered maps as part of the Clarke case in 2024. The case settled because, frankly, the Supreme Court made clear what it was about to do. I'm all for fair maps but maps drawn to force a legislature that matches the vote in statewide elections aren't "fair." They are conforming to a "standard" that our Constitution does not adopt and so are themselves a gerrymander. They seek to do rig a partisan outcome that our framers. This isn't hard to understand if you want to.
Juliana Bennett for the People@JuForthePeople

Dawg, the GOP has been gerrymandering maps in their favor since like 2010. Where have you been?! But I’m a Wisconsin leftist and you’re a Wisconsin conservative, instead of going back and forth, we should agree to have fair maps in our state. And all states.

@ChrisCuomo This is literally what Democrats did. They were happy to gerrymander for a century but only sought to stop it once they largely ran out seats to gerrymander, and once republicans started beating them at their own game

Spare me the complaints about Virginia's new districts. This is my new district in Texas. Unlike VA, I wasn't able to vote on it. The blue area is a very diverse part of the Dallas suburbs that was carved out & threw in with a bunch of rural (red) voters as far as 180 miles away!
