October gets its name from the Latin "octo" (eight) because in the ancient Roman calendar, which started in March and had 10 months, it was the 8th month. When January and February were added later, it became the 10th (not 11th), but the name stuck. Similar for November (9) and December (10).

Can someone explain why October is the 11th month when it starts with “Oct”
