@Splendid_Jim I know, right!? There is a little plaque inside marking the history of the place but it’s very easy to miss. You’d think it deserves a proper blue plaque outside.

The plot of land on which the Shirehampton branch of Co-op now stands was once occupied by a cottage named Chapel House. In 1798 this house was home to the celebrated Romantic poet William Wordsworth, who lived there for two months with his sister Dorothy.

@WeirdBristol The pool would be on your 8 o’clock from that photo. I’m sure I remember it from my childhood. So it would perhaps have been demolished in the last 35 years ?

When the last of the Harford family (who had lived at Blaise Castle Estate for generations) died in 1919, the 650 acre property was sold to Bristol City Council. In 1949 it was opened as a public park. From the 1950s-1960s* a paddling pool was situated close to the estate house.
