16 consecutive seasons in the top flight - the longest in the clubs history. A third placed finish, eight top six finishes, nine European ties, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup. The Golden Era of St. Johnstone Football Club

Much more like a team going for a league title in the second half. Special mention to Josh Fowler for his role in that; thought he led the line brilliantly and took his goal really well. Biggest weekend of the season to date - the sort you look back on in years to come.

@edhodgesport @C_ENicolson @SeanHamSport Can’t imagine there’d have been many disagreeing with their assessment - there’ll be even less now! Holt the one to drop out for me. Stanton is capable of doing similar things to him, whereas nobody gives us what McAlear does. Dropping the captain easier said than done though

@StJohnstoneFans .@C_ENicolson @SeanHamSport called this on their pod earlier in week. Holt or McAlear has to miss out to make us more dynamic going forward. And so it proved second half… well done all round!

Fowler for Holt substitution at half time one of those that Valakari absolutely nailed. Shifting Stanton into the middle alongside McAlear just as crucial in turning things around as Fowler’s greater influence up front. Would have those two near the top of any MOM choice.

Jamie Gullan goal has changed the complexion of things after what was an awful first half. Saints have struggled with the weather and looked unprepared for the battle. Second half needs to be a marked improvement if they want to take three points from this.

Can’t spend your life worrying about what others will do, and that much is true in football and this title race. A very impressive 7 days for Partick Thistle given their circumstances, but the title is still in Saints’ hands. thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/footb…

Bumper crowd, live on TV - everybody knew how that was going to end. Despite both having threatening spells within the game, neither can claim they did enough to win it. I don’t quite subscribe to the notion Thistle had to win tonight, but it’s certainly a good point for Saints.

Could be the most I’ve shouted ‘calm down’ at the football in a while. Saints just all too rushed/panicked, too often, during the first half. Looking like being a big night for the respective benches; quality on the pitch lacking at the moment.

@StAnalysis Been excellent in those games beyond the goals too. Not sure this team functions without him in there, so it’s no surprise the collective dip happened when he had his. Big players and personalities step up when you require them - he has done just that.

Also worth noting, considering the criticism of him that was starting to appear and how everyone seemed to want someone to step up for us beyond McPake, that McAlear now has 3 goals in his last 3 games and every single one has put us in the lead.

Beyond glad that’s the last time I’ll be subjected to this Ross County team in the flesh. Five games against St. Johnstone this season, under four different managers, and not a single goal scored. God only knows how much time was wasted in those five games.

Important victory for St. Johnstone after last night’s late show at Cappielow, both in points and psychology. Just takes some of the wind out of Thistle’s sails. Not pretty but another one crossed off the list. Seven to go, with the biggest one so far on Friday. Be there.

Two totally different teams since McAlear opened the scoring: County look to have lost any sort of belief they had, Saints the opposite. Really meek and pathetic stuff from the visitors that you’d have hoped would’ve been punished more.

@StuartMcK17 I reckon you’d be well into double figures for the number of people who declared ‘that’s in’ the moment he hit it.

365 days since the tap-in of all tap-ins. Gonna put my neck on the line and say there hasn’t been a better St. Johnstone goal in the year since. Few decent attempts at taking that crown, mind.
