While unruly teenagers in Navy Yard have been grabbing headlines, it has gone unnoticed that DC has gone 11 days without a homicide. We're now in the midst of DC's 3rd longest homicide-free streak in the last 20 years

It was a few spots down on the 300 block of g St SW this morning with a fresh ticket, because it is too close to a hydrant. Too bad @DCDPW doesn't check if the vehicle is tow eligible when they ticket!

Too bad @DCDPW has such minimal evening and weekend towing; they could have gotten this car from a towaway zone at 3rd and G SW tonight. Of course they also could have gotten it 12/16 (before it racked up 7 speed/stop sign tickets in 5 days!) or 3/11....

Unfortunately, assault with a deadly weapon is up more than homicide is down. More people got shot, stabbed, beaten, etc. this year than last; so far fewer have died, but that's more about luck and good medical care than a crime reduction.

@StacyCloyd @drivers_of_DMV @oucmecalling311 @DCDPW @wcp @councilofdc There is a back story to this I'd try looking up if I wasn't on the phone but in the late 90's there was a big scandal at DC impound lot where cars were basically being illegally disposed of by staff&in typical DC fashion they stopped quickly disposing of cars rather than fixing.

Today's reckless driver almost sideswiped us near the 6th District substation on Pennsylvania Avenue SE. The front and side of the minivan was smashed to bits, and the woman driving it was glued to her phone they say that correlation is not causation, but here's $14,000+ in tixs.

🧹 Street sweeping season is underway across DC.
Through March 15, DPW issues warnings to help residents adjust to posted sweeping schedules. Beginning this Monday, March 16, ticketing will begin for vehicles parked during street sweeping hours.
Check your block’s posted signs and move your car on sweeping days.

@rej_dc Let's see if they collect one penny of any of these judgments. I would still like to see them tow many more cars; it's a faster and cheaper deterrent than litigation and frees up parking spaces.

@SafeSidewalksDC @DCDPW yeah, off the streets (which I mentioned!) is the cake. The revenue is the icing. Best of all would have been if this driver figured out how stop signs work, especially at an intersection full of family housing and a church, down the block from a day care.

@euro3times yeah, it was quite frightening! Two people and two cars were hit, thankfully nobody was killed, and I was able to run away. It's frustrating that MPD doesn't count it as part of its public crime stats and it's hard to find out if any arrests were made.

@paulcwagner While everyone is focusing on crime numbers, please look into what happens when an agency other than mpd is considered the first responder. I witnessed a shooting last May that was (somewhat questionably IMHO) put in dcha police jurisdiction, so it doesn't show up on crime cards.

Breaking- Andre Wright, MPD’s second in command has been placed on administrative leave along with his wife, also a police official, after multiple sources say inappropriate messages were found on his phone after it was seized during investigation into crime numbers.
