I'm just like this guy, you know. All tweets are tweets, and should be considered just tweets. Weird mix of political, sci-fi, and aviation content. Japanaphile

Well, crap.
A little bit of my childhood also died.

Chuck Norris has passed away at the age of 86.

@Archer83Able But I was told by super, very knowledgeable anons on X that the A-10 has no place in modern warfare.
Now we find out that A-10s eat drones (one of the most modern warfare weapon) like candy.

@jondelarroz @RAZ0RFIST B5 is one of the greatest sci-fi TV series ever. And I think there is very likely some truth to the alleged plagiarism of DS9. But JMS is a grade A A-hole who has apparently gotten worse in old age. Plus, even he has said that great artists steal ideas.
English

J. Michael Straczynski went on a completely unhinged rant, accusing @RAZ0RFIST and me of libel because of Babylon 5.
Will have more on this later today!

@stoolpresidente I'm old enough to remember New York pols celebrating Rush Limbaugh moving out of NYC to Florida

@Vox_Optimatium @GBNT1952 Thanks. I was trying to be polite and didn't necessarily disagree with his general point, but for some reason he jumped down my throat.

@StationCommandr @GBNT1952 A worthwhile correction, Commander. GBNP takes awkward umbrage with your post.

This is a perfect example of state run propaganda, ladies and gentlemen.
Here, you have an official Press Office for the Governor of the largest state in our Union pushing a defamation campaign against an independent journalist.
What terrible thing did that journalist do? Oh, he exposed hundreds of millions of dollars in welfare fraud in an all but fully Democrat run state.
California is an actual fully Democrat run state, so they are absolutely terrified of independent journalists that aren’t on their side coming in and spoiling all of their fun.
I mean, what if someone actually looks into all of the NGO fraud in California… like where did that $37 billion go that ole Gavin threw at homelessness since 2019 only for homelessness in his state to increase by about 24%?
Seems like a lot of money for some pretty terrible results…
I’m just asking questions guys.
Actually, I’m not.
We are watching a live and self reported coverup by Gavin Newsom’s office unfold in real time, for why else would you be against a journalist exposing fraud?
The Governor’s office should have nothing to worry about from a bit of investigation, right?

@MAXIMUM_ODEN There is Zero flying here in Amerca. I saw it a few years ago at an airshow. It is easy to see it is a very light weight fighter compared to American fighters.

@softypapa Curious what kind of visa allows you to retire in Japan?
English

Episode 4 in my ongoing #RetiringInJapan tax journey.
In 2025, my first full year living in Japan as a retiree, we used retirement funds from the U.S. to set up our new life here—buying a home, getting a car, and doing some remodeling. It was a big transition year.
Like many Americans abroad, I knew I would need to file taxes in both the United States and Japan. What I didn’t fully understand at the time was how differently the two countries calculate taxes on the same income—and how that difference can affect the final result.
After finishing my U.S. taxes (and even receiving a small refund), I was surprised to learn that I still owed taxes in Japan. The taxes paid in the U.S. were credited here, but Japan calculates things differently, so I had to settle the difference.
It’s been a humbling lesson in how international taxes really work—and a reminder that the first year of a big life transition often comes with surprises.
Hopefully I’ll be better prepared next year. And I’m sharing the experience in case it helps someone else who might be planning a similar path. 🇯🇵

@JapanTripFriend I've been to Hama several ttimes, but would like to try Kanazawa.

If you’re going to try conveyor belt sushi in Japan, I think most tourists end up going to these chains first.
Kura Sushi
Sushiro
Hama Sushi
Kappa Sushi
Affordable, tasty, and very satisfying.
By the way, I personally go to Hama Sushi about twice a month.
But there’s one conveyor belt sushi place that many Japanese people, including me, say is the best.
Kanazawa Maimon Sushi.
A conveyor belt sushi restaurant originally from Kanazawa.
It’s a little more expensive than the big chains.
But honestly, it’s on a completely different level.
All my friends say the same thing.
“If it’s conveyor belt sushi, this place is the best.”
Everything on the menu is delicious.
They also have several locations in Tokyo and Osaka, so it’s easy to visit.
I usually go to the Ueno branch.
Fun fact:
In Japan, the regions famous for great sushi are Hokkaido, Kanazawa, and Toyama.
Kanazawa is especially known for amazing seafood.
Which conveyor belt sushi would you like to try in Japan?

@TomcatJunkie The model was built and painted to withstand scrutiny from very close photography.
Special pearlescent paint gave it a unique sheen.

This is the absolute best a star ship has ever looked on the big screen. Just fricken gorgeous.

It's why I think the whole "these generations could never do Normandy" is such nonsense. The Greatest Generation probably couldn't imagine themselves doing Normandy before the war.

@politicalmath Amazing on so many levels. Upper management getting his hands dirty and running towards gunfire (metaphorically). Sheer determination to take down the perpetrator in his eyes. De-aging 20 years in the process. True American spirit and pragmatism.
