A new paper led by @cesearle presents a lack of evidence for #cheetah presence in #Tanzania’s Selous-Nyerere landscape. Based on spoor & camera trap surveys conducted from 2020 to 2022 in addition to enquiries with PA management staff & tourism operators: doi.org/10.1017/S00306…

New paper led by WildCRU’s Charlotte Searle reveals important insight into spotted #hyaena population densities, interaction with other carnivores & human impacts. The valuable contribution of students in camera trap data analysis is also highlighted. See bit.ly/3QcizjJ

@AmyDickman4 @AdamHartScience @knowmiun @fishvetmj Actually, you know what - @knowmiun, the answer is two lines below what you highlighted. Hum actvt slightly higher in GRs than NP bc it is very high in vacant blocks. In active blocks actually slightly lower than NPs. All the info is there, it just requires actually reading it.

@AmyDickman4 @AdamHartScience @knowmiun @fishvetmj Sure, I'd be happy to explain why @knowmiun's interpretation of our findings, and of those from Craig's and Henry's work, is incorrect. Not on a Twitter thread though - I'm in the field trying to actually address these issues, so please reach out via email.

Our new (OA) article is out! We show how modern camera traps can be used to help #lion population monitoring, using examples from southern #Tanzania's understudied #Ruaha-Rungwa landscape. Thanks to @cesearle @AmyDickman4 @PhilippHenschel @macdonalddw @mkuburo @smitjosephine!

Congratulations to Charlotte Searle @cesearle, our most recent WildCRU graduate to successfully complete her viva. We’re pleased to have been able to celebrate with you, albeit from a distance.

@katzyna @s_pooley @dilysroe @ConsActionTrust @rosie__cooney @PaulJoh93195432 @IUCNSULi I personally think both hunting and non hunting orgs should fund conservation. The insinuation that any funding, let alone <1%, biases our scientific outputs should concern us all as impartial scientists.

zoo.ox.ac.uk/article/depart… @OxZooDept 's reponse to unfounded insinuations appearing in the media last week. Such low-blow attempts at miscrediting opinions through blatantly false accusations have no place in a scientific debate, regardless of one's personal views on the topic.

@NikiRust Let's not beat arund the bush - UK TH import ban is a result of public thinking it will help African wildlife. We disagree, thinking it willhave the opposite effect, and want to make the public aware of this. That's it. We are not discussing African countries' internal policies.

@NikiRust I agree, they should. If, however, I believe they are basing decisions on factually inaccurate information (or lies - e.g. TH=poaching), it's my right (and possibly duty, given my/our roles as science communicators) to try and ensure public is fully informed when making decisions
